nobody - restore files - database not ok
Hello,

first, please pardon my poor English.
Links is a great script, but now I'm runnig in problems and I as a starter
need help. May be now 99,9% of the visitors of this board laught load adn say
that's not a problem, but it's a problem for me!

Since a few days funny things happen.
When anyone submit a new link, the ID is wrong, so older links are killed.
I download the linksid-file (i found out that there should be the next id-no.),
and funny the entry was 3 but around 200 links are in the database.
Was no problem to correct this and to set ist again to 2xx

But, the database (links.db)? It looks so:
1|
3|
4|
etc.
10|
11|
etc.
19|
2| <<-- think here it's wrong
20|
and so on
at the bottom again 2| etc.

So I download the file, also the url file, etc. and correct it.

Now big problem!!! I can't upload it, because I couldn't (it tooks
time to this out) be the "nobody" and there is no way -I found no way
to restore the back up files or to say rebuild the files or what ever.

Hope someone how knows more arround this problems (and perfect if she/he
speak German) can and would give a little help.

Thanks a lot
Walter

There is a FAQ in the Resource Center in the LINKS 2.0 section that discusses maintaining permissions of the links.db file to 666 (rw-rw-rw-).

BTW: To restore the file, all you have to do is delete the links.db that is in the /data/ directory. Then rename the links.db.bak file to links.db. Then change the permission of the new links.db file to 666 (rw-rw-rw-).
