How large is your database? If it is relativly small (less than 1,000 links) I would just rebuild all of the pages. Is there any specific reason as to why you only want to do one category?

no matter how i do it, staggered, staggered auto, it craps out.

this is a new problem. i been using this links script for 2 years now and

it has worked fine.

can i just rebuild one category?

Erm, I'm not sure that is possible. Have you tried re-building via Telnet?

i've done nothing to the scripts in quite awhile....its a great program and it has

saved me many hours of manually editing my list of links. i can't imagine why it does that

It would be helpful to know which error message you receive.

Thomas,

Are you using the links2.0 for your site and if so how are you doing with it - have you had any problems with regards to builds? You seem to have a lot of links.

thanks

Hi Socrates,

I think we share the same hosting company. As you know their servers run pretty well. At the moment, my database holds about 4.000 links (1.2 MB in size). The building process now takes between 10 and 20 mins (I am rebuilding every other day). I am checking my database quite frequently for broken links in order to keep it as small as possible.

Anyhow, I can see LinksSQL on the horizon. Angelic

Wow! 10-20 mins., really? That's a long time.

Actually, my links site is hosted on a different server not with this host (I have other sites there). I also use links as a classifieds site and I have been thinking of upgrading to SQL (though I have not had any problems with 2.0). I have a fully modified and customized version of Links 2.0 and if I upgrade I am afriad I will have to spend a lot of time/money on redoing things or get someone familiar with SQL. I guess eventually I will have to upgrade but I will wait as long as I can.

socrates,

With the plugin system, you can add modification a lot easier than Links 2.0. Although I am still using Links SQL v.1.13 (doesn't include plugin system, have to manually re-code and hack stuff in the files) and I don't plan on upgrading for awhile since I have an integrated login system working just fine with Links SQL v.1.13.

To give you a frame of reference, it took me two and half months to upgrade all the Links 2.0 mods to work with Links SQL v.1.13. With Links SQL v.2.X and its plugin system, it should take you a lot less time to upgrade.

Buh Bye!

I know, I am using a lot of extra fields, my directory has over 220 categories. I would like to add more, but I better wait for SQL. As Eliot stated, the module system facilitates the process of porting 2.0 mods over to SQL, shouldn't be too difficult.

Eliot,

Thanks for the info. You will see me in the SQL forum when I upgrade.

Thomas,

Yes, I have about 200 categories too.
