Total newbie questions
I'm considering using Links 2.0 for a directory I run and was wondering a couple things...

1) Can sites be added to more then one category, preferably in one swoop?

2) Can Links 2.0 be set up on a computer hard drive first for practice first and then uploaded onto the site?

1) Yes...WITH the AltCategory Modification (add-in)...not out-of-the box though.

2) As mentioned quite a few times in the support forums, yes. For more information, search for offline editing.

Where can I find that mod? And another question...what's the link max on Links 2.0? I have at least 6000 on my current version (not Links 2.0) and expect to get several thousand more.

You'll find the AltCat Mod here

As for your second question: that has just been discussed twice last week. For more detailed answers, browse the forum. Anyhow, with 6.000 links you should seriously consider using LinksSQL.

No way could I even consider LinksSQL....this is totally non-profit and I can't afford...what is it? $450? :(

GT does offer discounts for educational and non-for-profit organizations. I would recommend contacting GT and asking them if you could get a discount.

The point in them is that you link to them, like 343.html. Not sure of what the tags are, but basically just add the tags into link.html (if you are using templates) instead of the main <%ID%> tag, or you create a new link where it lets them view the Detailed Page.

Someone may want to clear this up a bit more as i never really used the Detailed Pages option, only twice and i never left it there becasue it used up too much space Frown especially with 1,000 or so links :(

Sorry for what may seem like stupid questions but I'm trying to determine the best way to set up my directory and any answers help...here's my next question. Can you have more then one copy of Links v.2 running in a site (in different directories, of course), in essence having, say, three databases?

Re: Total newbie questions In reply to
Technically you can use as many copies of Links on your server as you wish. For more info on multiple databases check out the following link:

Thanks for you help, i have another question, is there a way to remove the description from the category page, and instead put the description on the sub category's page, that is say you had a category "shopping" and a subcategory "Books" I want he shopping category description to be on Shopping category page, and the description for the subcategory books, to be on the books category page, and not on the shopping category page. again i appriciate any ideas you might have on how to do this
