Statistics : Everyone : How big is your links.db
Hello everyone !

What is interesting is to know is the following :

1 - How many links in the database.

2 - The size of your links.db in MB

3 - Searching speed in the links.db database.

4 - The time of updating/Creating the new pages after validation?

Your information could help me and many others.

Thanks.

1. about 1500 links
2. links.db about 300K
3. very very fast (much faster than Yahoo!, Altavista, Excite and Lycos)
4. 1-10 minutes. It much depends on the internet connection speed

I have a non-standard version of Links running... but it has done quite well for me. I have over 2600 links, and my links.db is nearly 5M.

1) 779
2) 0.29 (<290 kb)
3) Quite fast
4) 35-40 minutes for a full build Frown

Point 4 is the nasty one. But the only reason this is true is that my boss required me to have one category which is a complete alphabetical non-spanning page of all the links in the database. That page alone takes all but about 2 minutes of the build process.

I am also using an "unconventional" version of Links2.0 with many added fields, including 3 large fields (maximum of 750 characters) for Site Reviews. (This, of course, adds more information in the database file.)

1) 529 Links
2) 178 K
3) 5 seconds (*) 10 seconds (**) 15 seconds (***)
4) 120 seconds (*)

(*) 44,000 bps with 56K modem
(**) 26,000 bps with 28K modem
(***) 12,000 bps with 14.4K modem

In order to better analyze your question, you may want to consider adding connection rates and also additional fields that people have added to Links. This would give a more accurate picture for you.

1. 1702

2. 389K

3. Quite fast. A few seconds at most, but that depends on the connection. Obviously, my standard 28.8 connection at work is much, much slower than my 256K DSL connection at home.

4. Just a couple of minutes at home, but about 5 minutes at work.

A lot of the speed is not just dependent upon the speed of the connection (I'm spoiled with the DSL), but also with the speed of the server that the site is hosted on. My search speeds increased once I switched hosting companies. My site is currently hosted on a machine with Dual P2 450's running Linux.

And, this is Links 1.1, not 2.0. I haven't had the time to upgrade- too many other things going on... like work! Smile
