Hi everybody! I am now looking at the move from my free server (virtualave.net) to a non-free server. If anybody has suggestions they would be appreciated. Also, I am a poor college student so the cheaper one's 10-25 would be good for me

Here is what I am looking for in a server:
- SQL access
- Telnet access
- CGI
- SSI
- Email

and thats it..not very picky Let me know if anybody knows of a good one that includes that and is cheap! Thanks

You might give a look at my own virtual server company, Orphanage Services located at www.orphanage.com/index.html .

While I don't have SQL installed for customers, I have no objections to customers installing and using it in their own server space. Some people have installed and use mSQL ( www.Hughes.com.au/ , mySQL ( www.tcx.se/ ), and PostgreSQL ( www.postgresql.org/ ).

Other than the SQL, I have everything you need and a lot more.

P.S.: Smarthosting is really nice..the only thing is the 25.00 is a little bit out of my price range.

Number One: http://www.galaxy-web.net <-probably this one since it is very cheap 9.95! and they offer everything i need plus more.
Number Two: http://www.dreamhost.com <--almost the same thing as above but costs more.

Don't use galaxy-web. I've heard bad things about them...

I've been with FutureQuest ( http://www.futurequest.net ) for 2 months now and they've been nothing short of stellar. They do offer a low-price option too.

A little more expensive than the two you mentioned, but really nice company, lots of features, and great support.

Be sure to check out Iperweb @ www.iperweb.com/ before you make your final decision. They cost $120US a year, and are great! Not sure if they have sql access, but that is because i've never needed to check
