Hi anybody
I have tried this, for renzo23, here is the main problem.
I have done a complete reinstall of links, however when I try the link admin.cgi the browser wants a user id and password.
I have installed a %ENV cgi file in the same directory, and it runs no problem.
I have installed .htaccess and .htpasswd files, but they are not working, I have after trial and lots of error got the realm to show, but will not accept the passwords.
I note, that this is not your usual host, but gives you access to root files, I even found the sendmail file.
It is also configured for frontpage.
Somebody with a knowledge of Unix may be able to point me in the right direction why this is not accepting passwords, and way admin.cgi will not open without a password.
My only other idea would be to get the host in this case
http://www.addr.com
to totally reconfigure the domain afresh.
Any help would be appreciated, as I am not totally offay with the finer settings of unix
Thanks
DavyC

I don't have enough knowledge of UNIX to be of help to you, but I do use www.addr.com and have had no problems whatsoever setting up links and .htaccess and .htpasswd files. Whatever's going on may be specific to that particular domain.

I have a sneaky hunch that frontpage is what is causing the problems here with access. I think you are going to have to get the host involved.

Exactly what you told us. Ask them to reset your configuration to its startup values, without deleting any of the files currently in your directory. Explain to them what happened.
