Links not found under heavy traffic

Links not found under heavy traffic
Hi, we are getting about 8,000 visitors per day right now. I have to rebuild the directory several times per day since our visitors keep getting "record # xxxx invalid or not found". As soon as I rebuild the HTML this problem goes away but it reoccurs regularly - now daily, only under heavy traffic.

We only have 1800 or so links in the database.

Did this happen to anyone? Any suggestions?

Thanks!
Genie

Your site is useless, every link gives the following error:

Error: No record specified or record not found (1631)!

this is our daily problem - I still would like to understand why this happens and why using build-nph removes this problem...

what gets corrupted?

we will upgrade to sql after christmas but meanwhile enquiring minds would like to know.... did anyone deal with this before?

thanks,
genie

Most likely your url.db, which is used by the jump.cgi file is being "corrupted" by your ISP possibly changing permissions of that file.

Also one more thing is that you may not have re-built your index in a timely manner after deleting links while executing the nph-verify.cgi file and deleting links.

Try to delete a few links at a time, then rebuild your index.

Well, I did a temporary solution mod,
in site_html.pl file - I just changed
the link spec to build URL rather than go direct to jump.pl

I think that even though we are using FLOCK one of the db files does not get incremented correctly when the script tries to write
into it (incrementing click-throughs on the link that was just cicked).

We have one server dedicated to this site only, its an NT Box running Website Pro. We'll upgrade to SQL next year. Thanks for your help!
