Fatal error verifying links
Hi,

I get this message after clicking the Verify link in the admin pannel:

In the past I didn't receive this error message and I didn't change anything.

BTW: are there alternative scripts to verify links for Gossamer links 2? In the past I only could verify less than 100 links.

Read the error ;)

>>(perhaps you forgot to load "URI::http"?) <<

It looks like you dont have URI::http installed on your server. Try contacting them and getting them to install it.

I am having the same problem as are others as stated in forum message "Verification Problem" http://www.gossamer-threads.com/...;page=unread#unread]and others. *I* definitely have those Perl modules installed on my server. Since myself and others are also experiencing this problem with a previously working script, I think the problem must be elsewhere.

I hope someone will take this problem seriously and offer a helpful suggestion. I submitted an email request for assistance from Alex over 1 week ago and have had no reply from him yet.

Bumping this one as I am also experiencing the same issue. The script worked in January this year, now it doesn't.

Other threads concerning this:

It would be great if we could get a definitive answer to this and have it readily available.

Tan Dat from Gossamer just fixed mine for me (although the verify timed out prematurely).

I will suggest he post the fix here as others seem to be experiencing the same problem as well. If not, contact GT directly requesting support.

I, too, have been having this problem for months. Someone from GT finally responded, but he just said that I should use Socket instead of Parallel, and to edit that in the nph-verify.cgi file.

Oy. I couldn't locate the correct place to edit that, so I decided to try something else.

I downloaded Links 2.0 again, thinking something might have changed since I installed it a couple years ago. I overwrote the old nph-verify.cgi file with the new one that I just downloaded, and it works.

Halle-freakin-lulah. It's slow as molasses, but it works, so I can't complain. :)

You were probably using 2.0, and its now 2.1, which got rid of the LWP/Parallel folders etc.....its a lot nicer to install now Smile

I have just tried this and i did not get the error message again, but it also did not do anything other then spinning until server open time run out,

I have never before used this link verification thing and my database has already some 6500 links and unfortunately the dead links start to grow and i need to clean this stuff out somehow, any other suggestions???

It appears the solution to this Fatal Error verifying links >>(perhaps you forgot to load "URI::http"?) <<
is to upgrade to version 2.1. Where does one download v. 2.1 ?? I have looked all over the site.

Please enlighten me.

Thank you!

It's a pretty old thread you correspond to, so i am not anymore 100% up to date with that, but as i remember it was indeed as some others suggested in this thread, just go and download the current version of Links2 again and probably all you need to use is the nph-verify.cgi
file from the latest version (i don't remember that there was ever anything else then Links 2, no Links2.1 or such because they just made any bug fixes and left the version name unchanged).
I personally have not used it since because as they also say, it times out prematurely.
I use this
http://www.dead-links.com/
or Xenu Links Sleuth
but both too seem to have limits.
But it is sure, a good verify solution wouldn't hurt Links 2 at all as dead links are as common as dead donkeys.

We downloaded the newer file. Replaced the old nph-verify.cgi with the new and now the verify proceedure does not run at all !!

Can anyone help us out ?
