Can the Search Engine Spider Find us if we use Jump.cgi or a direct link?
Does anyone know if the search engines spiders can find/list us if we use Jump.cgi? in our links as opposed to using a direct link to our detail pages.
I thought of this question when I visited http://www.gossamer-threads.com/scripts/resources/Links/Sites_In_Action/Version_2.x/
and looked at a project at:
http://www.matineemag.com/television/
that was similar to a project I am using the Resource Templates for. My question is this:
Would the search engine spiders give us a better listing if we used a direct link to this:
http://www.matineemag.com/articles/41.html
Rather than this method:
http://www.matineemag.com/jump.cgi?ID=41

Thanks,
TimRyan

To my knowledge, spider's can't follow links through a cgi script (or anyother dynamic source with that ? being a good tipoff). It has no impact on page ranking, but if the spider can't find the page to spider it in the first place, you won't get it listed.

Some search engines will spider site's pages that are generated by CGI but alot won't. The only way to be sure your links get spidered is to use the actual URL.

BTW, if your links point to off-site URL's the spiders won't follow them.
