A knowns Error: Database 0 bytes?
Hi,
I've searched the forum for a very long time and read many posts regarding "Database 0 bytes" .... but I think my problem is still different ...

My version of links ist still working fine since three years. Now I have about 1500 Links in the database. After changing my hoster it is working basically fine, but sometimes I get the error "Database is 0 bytes". But the Database is definitely NOT 0 bytes, it is about 500 k. The building process seems to work correct, but in rare but worrying cases the database gets corrupted and I must use the backup. And it seems, that new ratings are not calculated! This is worrying too.

I don't know, when the error comes and when not. It comes very often, when I've changed something, and maybe when new ratings are there.

I don't think that this "version" of "0 bytes" has anything to do with the cases which are discussed here... maybe someone could help me... I am worried a little...

Kai

Your database is getting too big for a flatfile to handle.

Hi Paul,

but I mean I've heard about databases with much more than 1500 links and about 2 GB, which are working fine...? Or is this wrong?

The only possibility seems to use links sql...?

It's wrong :) ...I expect your entire server would fall to pieces with a flatfile database 2GB in size.

Yes the only way is to use a better database, which means SQL and so Links SQL is the most obvious choice.

Hi Paul,
ok, thx so far...

what do you mean is the maximum of links and db-size, that allows links to work correctly?

1000 links or 1Mb is probably about the best you can expect if you haven't added any new fields.

If you're on a free host, it's possible that their hard drive runs out of space on a regular basis, thus truncating your files when they're written to.
