"new" item display

"new" item display
I am having a bit of trouble with the "new" in front of categories and links. It never goes away. I have added new links and categories over the last 2 weeks and yet the first ones still show new. Is there a way to control how long "new" is shown?

In links.cfg:

# Number of days a link is considered New.
$db_new_cutoff = 14; # 14 days old.
