Sorting options modficiation?

Sorting options modficiation?
If this mod has already been created I apologize in advance for this post, but what I am looking for is modification of my installation of Links 2.0 to give the visitor the ability to sort listings in a category by a different field if desired.

How I envision this working is a routine added to the build process to build a second set of pages already sorted by a different field, then a link placed in the category title on each page to link to the other sorted page. I would assume that this is the only way to accomplish this, but if anyone has other suggestions I welcome all ideas.

Currently I have my install of Links modified in a number of ways (with the assist of other users in this forum) and are currently sorting the listings alphabetically by another field other than name, basically I would now like to make a separate set of pages sort by name alphabetically.

I realize that this may be best accomplished by contracting someone to complete, if you have completed similar sorting mods in Links before please e-mail me directly.

Please reply with any suggestions on how best to accomplish this mod.

Thanks for reading.
-Doug Drudik.

It was available prior to July 8,2000 when it was removed. And someone else is in the process of re-writing the modification...search for ds category sort.

I worked out a solution using a second copy of links.def, links.cfg, nph-build.cgi, site_html_templates.pl, and category.html. It's not the most elegant solution, but it creates the effect of what I was looking for.

Thanks again.

Right...but if you want a dynamic solution...ds may work out a solution...

BTW: You only need to EDIT the links.def and links.cfg files with new variables to use for sorting and make copies of the sub build_sorthit routine in the db_utils.pl and copies of subs in the nph-build.cgi script...you DO not really need to use separate copies of the files you mentioned.

The problem will be is that if you edit the %db_def hash in one links.def file, then you will have to edit the other links.def file. Pretty painful and labor intensive process if you ask me.

Also, building copies of static web pages in LINKS have been addressed in this forum and in the context of "user" sorting categories...

I was mistaken in my method, and would like to read more about allowing the user to sort listings within a category. I'm sure I am missing something, but I have searched in the forum and was unable to find those posts. Do you have a link to a thread or suggestions on search terms that worked for you to find those threads in the forum?

Thanks for your help.
-Doug.

Uh...like I mentioned...there is NO available MOD at this time, but a LINKS USER, ds...even if you search for ds using the User option in the search options in the forum search form, you will find a few threads where ds and glennu have talked about dynamic category sorting displays!!!!!!!
