Pascha,

That's not true, you can't see the font someone used for their logo's.

You ment the normal text-font, but if you understand english should have known that THAT was not the question. :-]

chrishintz,
It's a third time you making a remark about my English. And it's also a third time you spelled 'Pasha' as 'Pascha', and for your knowlege I had 511 points on the international TOEFL test.

TOEFL = Test of English as a Foreign Language
(lowest score you can get is 60, highest is 600, if you don't get 500 you don't pass)

Now about fonts, I just wanted to suggest one way of looking at how others use their <font> tags.

Maky, if you'd like more examples of Yahoo-like logos. take a look at: http://www.sanook.com/ Smile

P.S. chrishintz no offense, just keep peace on the Earth and this message board Wink

Re: yahoo font? In reply to
The best way to do this:

1. Goto www.yahoo.com
2. View the "Page Source"
3. Use their <font> tags on your page

Hope this helps. Smile

Maky,
This is not my web site, I got it from my old bookmarks. The language they use, I think is Thai. You might want to contact the web master webmaster@sanook.com , if you're interested in Yahoo-like fonts. Smile

Has anyone found this font as of yet?

Brian,

I'd be surprised if that were so, because Yahoo was created by individuals who had no idea that it was going to grow into a huge monster beast like it is now. They just wanted to have an index of the web, so they made one. I believe they've been using the same type face all along, and when they began, they would have laughed in the face of anyone who suggested they pay $5K for a custom typeface.

Course maybe my memory is wrong, and they started out with a different logo. But if it's the same logo, they didn't pay for it. They weren't corporate and didn't know they were starting a business endeavor.

I'm 99% sure it's a custom font. Many large companies hire fontographers to create custom lettering for logo's. It only cost's around $5k but it gives them two advantages. One= it makes them "different" and makes their logo more regognizable. Two= More importantly (for you anyway), it gives them full, undisputable ownership of that text style. They can sue you if you use it. My recommendation? Find something close enough to it to look similar, but different enough to protect you from a copyright suit.

phoenix,

I agree it is the same logo they have always had. While looking for the font I did find many Yahoo parody sites using the same font. All of these sites I found are listed on Yahoo's parody page. The font looks to me like it belongs to Yale if anyone at all.

That's not true, at least in North America. A court ruled that type faces can not be copy protected. I believe it was Paramount that tried to stop people from using Star Trekę like fonts. They lost >8~}

That logo was obviously hand made, probably with a paint program.

If you look for a font named Expo or Estro, they are very similar although they don't have the un-even assenders and decenders. But you could probably alter the look with a draw program.

You might find what you are looking for here: http://hem2.passagen.se/webbsida/Free_Fonts/

I wonder where Bobsie is? This thread really doesn't have anything to do with Links Modification. Smile

I found them listed in a book about Corel Draw 4. Expo is corel's name and Estro is an equilivant TrueType font name.

Maybe you can download it from Corel? or maybe look for an old copy of their software for sale cheap.

As mentioned, in the US, type faces (the look-and-feel of the letters) can't be copyrighted, since you can't copyright the representation of language -- only logos. You _CAN_ copyright/trademark the NAME of the font, which is why fonts that look alike often have different names.

So, "YAHOO" as a logo is protected, any other look-alike use isn't.

You can find look-alike fonts on the larger font sites, do a little searchng. www.clipart.com is a good place and easy to remember that points to a lot of stuff.

Well I changed my site (Dont want to get sued) so I have used a great font called Gilligan (yes after the font from Gilligans Island) it aint the yahoo font but it is good. So I guess this thread should not really persue anyone trying to look too much like yahoo as you may get sued. I just thought it was a laugh so I did it but second thoughts have changed my mind somewhat. I dont think I would like to get into trouble for something I am not generating money out of!
