I need a reliable file/dir password protection script that can work well with Links 2.0 .

I've tried cgi-resources.com without finding something interesting.

Can you help me..?

There was a reply to your earlier post. Did you already check the Resources section for this site??? Also, have you bothered to search through postings other than your own? I answered a similar question no more than 2 hours ago... and can you stop screaming. <sigh>

I've checked the posts before.. but the answer was not realy helping me.. The Gossamer resource center contains no links to the nfo that i've requested.

I apologise if i ofended u in any way.. all i need is just some help.. cause i'm looking everywhere and i cant find some reliable nfo.

I just answered a similar post...and I think it may have been you...

Here are two solutions that are reliable:

1) Use the Admin Shut-Off Mod in the Resource Center.

2) Change the permission of your admin.cgi to 444, which will not allow anyone to use it. When you need to use it, change its permission to 755.

Thanks for ur effort, the prob is that the link to Admin Shut-Down is dead..

Well.. I found a great script (protect.pl), unfortunately it's down to.. and at cgi-resources.com the nfos r incomplete (most of the password-protect links r down)..

Well, hope you find a solution. Make sure that whatever you find that it will really protect your directory. There are many password scripts that are pseudo security scripts. They really do not protect scripts and files in directories.

Another solution is for you to switch to a hosting company that allows .htaccess.

Just a suggestion.. but if you don't have access to .htaccess or .nfconfig files.. I would umm.. get a real provider that gives you access.. easiest way really.. just my 2 cents tho.

Agreed with other distinguished posters re: your host... you might try WebAuthenticate, where you can attempt to have links build below public_html directory (strong security). Don't know if it will cuz I haven't tried it. You can find it at extropia.com...

Yep...But if you do not have .htaccess on your server, then the script is pointless.
