Looking for Links 2 Shopping cart Mod, will pay $100!
Dear all,

I am looking for someone who can add a "shopping cart like" function into links 2. The function should be like what "hostgloble.com" is doing.

When people are interested in the links, they click on "add to cart" button, they can at anytime check out how many links they have added to their cart. If they think enough, they can click the "check out" button, and then a form will appear to ask them some info. All the process are without caluation.

I already have the shopping cart script, the problem is how I make it work with Links2.

If anyone are interested, please contact me and we can further dicuss it. Thanks in advanced.

***** WARNING: NON PROGRAMER RESPONSE *****
It would seem to me that you would have to use a shopping cart that uses a database, then change the way it reads the database so that it corresponds to the links.db database.
then in the proper template, simply add the link to the shopping cart with something like this
a href=http://www.yourdomain.com/shoppingcart.cgi?item=<%dbid%> or whatever it is called for the links id number.
Then if you have the shopping cart using the same database as links, it should work great.
Of course as I said Im not a programmer only a beginner with a suggestion.

You might want to check out the hostglobal.com site, which is running links. The site apparently has a shopping cart modification, but I don't know if the script is for public consumption or not.

Hi, i would try to integrate S-mart as it uses a similar build as links, you get it
in its database-version at
http://www.stiusa.com/~brobison/scripts/
or in its simple html version as Redicart
at: http://www.itransact.com/redicart/index.html

with this script integrated into links it will be the most versatile shop-manager on the web.

if anyone is interested to build on this
feel free to join my S-mart Links Project
i will set up a separate Webpage and Forum
for this if there is enough demand. Major Goal is get a complete mall and shop management system build, using and integrating above script with links and
your mods. if interested, send me an email
with S-mart Links in the Subject line and
your message.
thanks
klaus
Dont forget you have to register Links for commercial Use

I've already implemented something like a shopping cart. Not really intended for actually shopping, more like an Organizer for links. I based it off the S-Mart script, but did a lot of hacking to make it work with cookies, instead of the IP addresses. You can take a look at it by going to baseballsimcentral.com/dloads/ and clicking on the 'Check Cart' link in the menu. If I have any time, I'll be more than happy to answer any questions.

Gwynar,

That's a great site. I have a question about your mod, however it's not about the Shopping Cart. (sorry to go off the topic).

How did you modify the Links List page so that the listings alternate in background colors? I've been trying to find a way to do this for awhile now, but haven't had any luck.

If you (or any other experts reading this post) can share your technique or at least point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance,
Grant Harris

Actually, I have used DcShop to combine with links. http://www.dcscripts.com

What I love most is they have the web admin area. I don't know whether it's the most easy shopping cart script to combine with Links2. Any idea?

Gwynar,

We are waiting - and wondering if you are you going to share how you implemented the "file upload" and the "shopping cart" mods?

I am particularly interested in letting people upload image files to our servers.

Thanks

Sorry for not responding here in a while. I've been busy coding some stuff for my site and finally finished up the other night (Had to take a little break -- my eyes were beginning to bug out.) With regards to your two questions Socrates...

1) The upload section in my Downloads Section (wow, that's a mouthful!) actually doesn't add any files to the Links database. I still do that manually. However, I'm gonna try working on a mod (the operative word here being try) that could allow someone to upload a file when adding a link to the database.

2) While I would like to share how I made the Download Organizer (and I'm not just saying that) to everyone, I'm not sure if I will have the time right now to make up detailed instructions on how to do so. However, if enough people show interest, I may very well try my hardest to get something written up. At this point, I really can't guarantee anything in the very near future, BUT, I am willing to help anyone out with some ideas/answers if they're currently stuck. I'm really sorry about this, but juggling a full time job, a full time website, and trying to code my own programs for the aforemention website, just doesn't leave me enough time.

Gwynar,

Thanks for your reply. I can understand. It takes a lot of time to write up instructions and besides, once you post it here you can expect all kinds of questions from people.

Anyway, if you do find time let us know whenever it is convenient for you.
