Listing without URL

Listing without URL
Hi.

I am using links to build a list companies, some only have phone numbers (yes, believe it or not, there are some that don't have a website).

How can I add them into Links, so I can list them, their phone number and sundry info, sans URL? I altered links.def to:

URL=> [2, 'alpha', 40, 75, 0, '', ''],

I can enter the listing without the URL, but I how do I get Links to display the listing without a hyperlink, so that it doesn't go to a non-existent page?

I was thinking adding an IF statement to Link.html or would it be better to alter site_html.pl?

Any ideas?

TIA

Well, the site_html.pl is only used if you are not using templates. If you are using templates, you can use if statements for fields, such as the following example:

Code:
<%if URL%>
<a href="<%db_cgi_url%>/jump.cgi?ID=<%ID%>"><%Title%></a>
<%endif%>

These codes can be placed in your link.html file.

You would have to change the bolded words to the fields you have for "Web Site" and "Title of Web Site".

Does this make sense?

I am using templates.

I tried your suggested change to link.html and it didn't work.

Then I used:

Code:
<%if URL%>
<a href="<%db_cgi_url%>/jump.cgi?ID=<%ID%>"><%Title%></a>
<%else TITLE%>
<%endif%>

Because I still want the name of the company to appear.

That didn't work either.

Any thoughts?

This is the db record:
Code:
13|Yamaichi Global&#0124; &#0124;15-Aug-1999|Mutual_Funds/Fund_Companies_Y|<font size=-2>800-257-0228   [<A HREF="http://biz.yahoo.com/p/fam/yamaichi_funds.html" >profile</A>]</font>|pete|pete@fundspot.com|0|Yes|No|0|0|Yes

The link to the page is:
http://www.fundspot.com/...ds/Fund_Companies_Y/

Do you have the Nested if's mod (avaiable in the resource center) installed in your links? Cuz if so you could use a statement like this...
Code:
<%if URL%>
<a href="<%db_cgi_url%>/jump.cgi?ID=<%ID%>"><%Title%></a>
<%endif%>
<%ifnot URL%>
<%Title%>
<%endif%>

I use simular statements alot in my templates, it's very useful.

Hope this does the trick,
Sheldon

Thanks. No I didn't (I didn't know why I would need it, but now I do).

You could use:

Code:
<%if URL%>
<a href="<%db_cgi_url%>/jump.cgi?ID=<%ID%>">
<%endif%>
<%Title%>
<%if URL%>
</a>
<%endif%>

without the need for the Nested if's mod.
