Contact one of the Installers in the Resource Center....This is not the forum to contract programmers to work for you.

Smile

BTW: Most of the search options you are requesting can be found in Threads in this Forum...like the Ascending Order...All I did was use Widgetz's search.cgi script that he wrote with sorting codes and put them into my search.cgi script.

Also, I already provided codes for case settings in this forum two months...

In fact, the only two items on the list that have not been discussed before are:

1) Boolean search (not the standard and/or connector).

2) Sort by Relevancy.

Quote:
1. All of the current options in Links search.
2. Ascending/Descending Sort Order.
3. Sort by Category, Date Added and Title.
4. Keyword Matches as Keywords, Phrase, Exact Word and Relevancy.
5. Boolean Options.
6. Case Sensitive or Insensitive
7. Titles and Summaries or Titles only.
8. Search in Category.
9. Search by Date with Options for Last Day, Week Month, etc.

1 - I have all current LINKS option.
2 - Written by Widgetz (search forum for sorting)
3 - Written by Widgetz (search forum for sorting)
4 - Phrase (comes with LINKS), Keywords (comes with LINKS), Exact (in this Forum), Relevancy (Not available.)
5 - Boolean Options - (Not available)
6 - In the Forum (search it)
7 - In the Forum (Look for Bmxer's No Category Result Mod....same thing can be done with titles/titles and summaries)
8 - Written by Widgetz - (Download his Category Search Mod), then the codes are really to set-up in the search form.
9 - Written by Widgetz - (Search the forum for search by date)

Hi Blake,

Have you had any luck with question 4 and 5? I have been looking to do this myself, (mainly #4) but have had no luck! :-( If you figure out a solution or find someone to impliment this please let me know. I sorta came up with a temporary fix, but now I'm having problems with case sensitivity....and I still haven't been able to find the thread on that yet, and I'm not sure if it will actually fix the problem. Anyway, if you have any ideas I'd sure like to hear em.

Thanks

BTW..... Here is one thread on case sensitivity, but it didn't seem to work:

Go here....

(6) - Case Settings (Sensitive and Insensitive):

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/...um3/HTML/003260.html

(Look at the codes that Widgetz provided in terms of editing the codes that I originally posted.)

Found this Thread in less than a minute and only four Threads appeared in the search results using the following criteria:

Keywords: Case Settings Eliot
Exact Word Match
Forum: Modification Forum
Date: Any Date

Again, like I mentioned...4 and 5 are not official Mods and are not located in the Modification Forum.

Looks like I found it quicker! Yeah, I already read that thread, but as I said "I'm not sure if it will actually fix the problem". By default, Links will pull results for keyword and Keyword? Right? Unfortunately, with my temporary solution, if someone enters keyword and it is in the database as Keyword it won't work. I know 4 and 5 are not official mods, I think thats why Blakew was requesting them....as I was before.

Exactly what type of boolean options are you looking for?

Hi oldmoney,

Actually, what I was mainly looking for was a way to search across fields and match exact words. I've added a few extra fields and I would like someone to be able to search for keywords which are in both fields and to actually match both those words. So, if there is one word in the title and one word in the description a user could say I want to match both those words? In my case, I've added two fields city and state and I would like to have someone type in San Diego California and get results. I'm not sure what would need to be done, but I think it would be a really useful addition. I've contacted several people on this, but so far haven't had any luck. Anyway, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thank You

Uh....first off, it was a joke. And, yeah, that was the first thread I found also......and I just forgot to put it in my first post at 10:47, so I went back and added it, just in case someone else might need the case sensitive stuff. I said "It didn't seem to work" where I should have said "It didn't seem to work for my LINKS project". I usually don't have problems finding threads if they have already been discussed. I appreciate your help Eliot...and if I recall didn't you have someone do this modification to yours? I think I even asked you if I could contact this person, and you told me NO, he does not wish to be contacted.....which is fine. I respected your answer, so, now I am trying to see if someone else has figured out a solution, so please respect my questions. I am not asking questions on the mods that are already done... I am asking questions on a mod that I would like to see done.

Simmer down, boys. For what its worth, Eliot, you are *very fast* in responding to threads, so when somebody else responds with the same answer, they rightly should feel pretty good (which is a backhanded compliment to you).

Domenic, I understand your request, and think it will be pretty hard. Before I dive into it, can I ask why you wouldn't have a (potentially optional) text field for the city and a drop down list for the state? This would be ten times easier (and I already have the code done)...

Blake (again), what boolean operators were you thinking about?

Hmm... I read the Thread at 10:54 and finished posting at 11:00 p.m. PST. I found the Thread a little after 10:55.

So, how can you calculate that you found the Thread "quicker"??

Wink

Also, I HAVE posted many times that most of the Mods that BlakeW requested can be found in the Forum.

Anyway...I was responding to help you, but since my replies don't do anything but to fuel the fire between us...I will think twice before posting a reply to any of your Threads.

Best of luck with your LINKS project.

Hey oldmoney,

Your right Eliot, is very fast at replying, and I do really appreciate his responses and efforts to help. I just thought I'd throw a little humor into because he always says search the forums. Hopefully, he doesn't get offended by it. But back to the question.... Actually, that is what I am doing right now, (which was my temporary fix) I have added a text box for users to enter the city and I have a dropdown for the states. Which I thought was going to work fine, but just noticed that if someone enters san diego in the text box for city it will pull no results, but if someone enters San Diego (as it is entered in the database) it will pull results. So, this is why I thought the case sensitive mod might help. But maybe I haven't added additional codes that you have already done? What do ya think? Thanks for your help oldmoney, I really, appreciate it.

OK, so is the state input optional? (I would go the other way, making the state required and the city optional). Let me know if the logic should be different than this: if have state, match state; if have state and city, match state AND match city; if have city, do nothing...

The standard search query *should be* case insensitive... at least it is on my site. Do you have a URL I can test (direct email is fine)?

Oh yeah... I should mention that I did this on the advanced search (added the text box and dropdown for states). It would be nice if the user could just type in all the keywords (keywords, city, state) on the main text box, but I'm assuming that is the part that you say would be hard? You would think since those additional fields that have been assigned in the search array it would work? I've tried taking them out of the array and adding hidden fields but no luck with that either. I think if I could just get the advanced search working with the codes you have, that would be fine too...whatever is easiest oldmoney! :-)

Thank You

Hi all

oldmoney,

If you could post your code for the state/city stuff, that would be great.

I've been looking for something like that for a while.

Also, could that be modified to search on area code, zip code, or other fields, as well?

Many thanks Smile
