Banning spammers

Banning spammers
Not sure this is where to post and my apologies if wrong. The forum has changed so much since I last visited. I tried to contact a moderator directly first to save submitted an unnecessary post (Ian since he was Canadian too!...but Ian or someone who knows him please let him know that his contact form on his webpage doesn't work so head's up on that since it is not only one of the ways you listed here at Gossamer to contact you but mainly because it is a business site and I don't want to see you losing business because of it.)

So, back to my question: Are there mods to Links 2.0 to ban spammers? If so, where would I find these? I see them mentioned in the forums but don't know where to locate them. I have no clue at this point how to find out their IP but eventually I figure these things out, techie I am not but tend to eventually sort through things ;) I searched all through the posts for the past couple of hours but have found nothing that answers my questions yet. I have been running this links for a couple years now at http://www.mediamage.com/links/pages/ It has worked great up until this week when we have been having a ton of spam. Any help/direction appreciated.

I posted this add-confirm mod yesterday, it should greatly reduce your spam: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/perl/gforum/gforum.cgi?post=285591#285591

Here are a couple of pages about using htaccess to block URLS (and more):

http://linuxreviews.org/webdesign/htaccess/

http://diveintomark.org/...robots_to_go_to_hell

http://www.wise-women.org/tutorials/htaccess/

This next one has a code generator, makes it easy. You may need to turn off your firewall (Norton) in order to view the site (it's safe):

So what I would do then, is block the domain names that they are trying to submit in my htaccess file correct?

Is there a way to find out someone's IP and block that instead? This fellow seems to be adding all kinds of different domains.
