gmail images
Greetings,

we recently had gossamer mail installed on our server. Not sure how well things are working yet. The images are not showing up. Through gmail admin the url looks to be correct in setup. Looking at the server through file manager it looks to me like the images are in the right place. What could be going on here?

Thanks, Bob

You probably installed your images into the cgi-bin directory. A lot of servers have it setup so that anything inside the cgi-bin directory are executed when accessed. Try moving the images directory outside of the cgi-bin directory and updating the path in the admin.

Did you put the images in the cgi-bin by chance? Also, check your error log and see if that tells you anything.

Take the /public_html out of the url. That should fix you up.

Still no go. I can see that the gmail images are in the public_html folder. Should i move them up a level?

What Chaz meant was change your Image URL from:

http://www.flying-squirrel.org/public_html/gmail_images

to:

http://www.flying-squirrel.org/gmail_images

Brewt, Chaz, sorry to be confusing. I did exactly what Chaz suggested and removed the public_html/ from the url in the admin control panel setup area. This install was done by a gossamer technician so of course that is the way it was set up originally. When i first logged on and created an account i noticed the images were missing and so i started experimenting. I have set everything back to initial and still no go.

Any other suggestions? I was wondering if the file permissions could be set wrong on the gmail folder. I was also wondering why the url in the admin http://www.flying-squirrel.org/gmail_images is not the same as what i am seeing through the website control panel. The images are in http://www.flying-squirrel.org/...ic_html/gmail_images

Thanks for your help.

If you email me the login information (see profile), I can fix it up for you.

ok, the dns is resolving now and the images are coming in, just not consistently. Each refresh or new page results in at least one red x instead of image.

Any suggestions? Permissions on the gmail folder? I am pretty sure i messed with them and can not remember what they should be.

Thanks,

bob

If they are working inconsistently then it's got nothing to do with Gossamer Mail since they're just linked to a folder. Also it wouldn't be permissions as you'd either be able to always see them or never. Maybe your server or your connection is having connectivity problems?

yes, you are probably right adrian. The server is recently setup and may have bugs, my isp should be ok because i never get missing images at other sites.

Still, i would greatly appreciate it if you could tell me what the permissions should be for the gmail images folder.

thank you,

bob

The default installation permissions are 777 (rwxrwxrwx) for the image directories and 666 (rw-rw-rw-) for the images.
