Currently I'm only using Mailer.pm of GT Mail for emailing received attachments of my links2.0 submission to my admin email. Would it be neccesary to upgrade for me? I don't need to html mail features; just a stable and quick mailer that can handle uploaded attachments.

The Mailer got completely overhauled. We now use GT::Mail to send, receive and parse any type of mail. You can see docs about it at:

(Use admin/admin to log in, it's from the Links SQL 2 demo).

But no, there's no reason if all you are using it for is the mailer module.
