Legal issues..
Greetings,

When a user logs in, aren't we required by law (In the United States) to ask if the user is below the age of 13? Then if they are to either turn them away or have some very complex signup, to where we get their parents permission to have email? I would suggest the turning away of anyone below the age of 13.

Please let me know, because this was something talked about for a long while and even when you sign up for a hotmail or yahoo account they ask.

Thank you,

Avery

Yeah VBulletin does the same (but GT are in Canada), but I'm sure Alex can advise a solution.

Hi,

If you create a page called 'join_coppa.htm' that asks if you are below age 13, then to signup, go to join.cgi?page=join_coppa.htm, and if they are over 13, send them to join.cgi, otherwise send them to another URL saying they need to fax a statement from their parents (or hit the back button and try again). =)

Cheers,

Alex

Hi,

If someone wants to create a join_coppa.htm page with the appropriate disclaimer, I'd be happy to include it in future versions, that way US sites can just like to join.cgi?page=join_coppa.htm, other sites can just go straight to join.cgi.

Cheers,

Alex
