mSql
In the future I am planning on upgrading to links sql. I need to know if any one knows if the new version will support msql. I found this thread http://gossamer-threads.com/p/97235 that suggested that it is currently not supported. My webhost already provides msql in my plan. They do offer mysql but I'd have to upgrade/add the feature at an extra cost. Thanks,
Paul

That is one of the planned features for Links SQL v.1.2. Alex has stated this in the Announcement forum. The main reason for the delay is the development of a SQL engine that will allow for easier upgrades and also support of different DBIs, including MSSQL.

Thanks. I remember seeing a post by Alex stating that they were focusing on Mysql, MS SQL, Oracle and Postgres databases. I hadn't heard anything about msql though. Now I know. Thanks alot,
Paul

mSQL doesn't have enough features, and postgres may be problematic as well. He's said before that supporting mSQL was difficult because of the lack of ceratin implemented features.

Right now, the install program gives you the choice of MS SQL7, MySQL or Oracle.

But, it's only an Alpha.

Thanks. I just thought that since I already had msql available, I would ask. Guess I'm gonna have to upgrade. I kinda thought it might not have enough features since that 'm' stands for mini. Thanks Again,
Paul

Correct, mSQL won't be supported. It is only useful (in my opinion) for single table applications, anything beyond that and it starts missing too many important sql features.

Since mysql is free (and last I looked mSQL is $200), there isn't really any reason not to use mysql (besides of course your ISP doesn't support it).

Cheers,

Alex

Cool, thanks Alex. Great to hear the word straight from the source. I'm planning on upgrading my plan to mysql later this year so I can upgrade to links sql. Thanks again,
Paul
