Excluding Categories - Submission

Excluding Categories - Submission
Hi,

Is it possible to 'exclude' categories from submission, i.e.; No submissions allowed in top level cats, only in sub-cats?

Would it be possible to add an extra field to the categories database, something like - "Allow Submissions" (Yes,No) and have links check this and display two different templates depending on the value, such as "Submission Form" for YES and "Sorry you can't submit here" for NO?

All the best
Shaun

This has been asked a few times. It requires a code change to the program, to check if a category is top level. There _might_ even be a fix in the forum somewhere, but I don't remember one.

I know Alex said mods will plug right in, but the category structure & logic is going to change in the next release, and this sort of mod will probably not work (or become moot) in the next release.

I am keeping a wish-list of things people want, and once the new version is released, I'll take anything off of it that's in the new version, then post this list so people know what to hack away at. (It's actually kinda long and getting longer <G>)

I dont know if you mean with "submissions" a normal adding or a submission from elsewhere;
i first case, its very easy to do the mod:
Add a new field to your cat-table, named Add then add the passing of this field inside your build.cgi (in build_cat)
then ask in your header.txt for this field if add ='Yes' print out the link to add/mod.

Have done this just an hour ago; it works fine.

Cause i dont have thought about autosubmissions; i dont know how they work.
But i think they would work like the filling out and sending an add_form. So you should go the same way;
give all the cats an extra-field and ask in add.cgi; if the field is set to yes or no.

This is not so elegant like asking for toplevel or not, but it should do it, too.
By the way; i remember somewhere in code is an if then with asking for the cat-level by prooving the / as sign if top or not.
But dont ask me where.

Oh i forgot; this is only possible if you work without the catlist; till yesterday i wont do that, cause i lost the catlist in admin too;
but now i have a small mod to work without the catlist, but have it in admin.
See at http://www.adeva.de/links.htm

If im right i have set this mod yesterday online. If not mail me.
