I am just wondering how does the script determine what links are cool or not? Is there any easy way to disable it?

You can define what percentage of the links are popular, or I believe you can even set say 'top 10 links'. By setting to 0, you should be able to deactivate it. Either that, or just edit the build order, so that isPopular or isHot does not determine the sort order of the links.

You disable it by taking it out of the menu bar so people don't know it's there, and by removing, or commenting out the "pop" flag in the link.html
