Do I need to have.use .htaccess in order for the editorys to work correctly? In order to set them up with permissions with just certain categories?

But in order to sign in properly, they have to use the htaccess to sign in, right? So if the htaccess isn't working, then they don't come in as an Editor and edit anything, right?

No.

You have to login to the Links SQL system and be a verified editor to edit anything. It doesn't require htaccess.
