add a link bug?

add a link bug?
Hi

A client of mine has a copy of Links SQL running on a intranet and has a problem when adding links. I don't have access to their server so I've not been able to try to duplicate or track down the problem. They are running Links on a Solaris box with Apache and MySQL. Has anyone else had a problem like this?

Code:
The problem occurs on some computers and not others yet
all the computers access the site through the proxy server. The proxy server
is therefore unlikely to cause the problem. All machines are accessing the
system through internet explorer 5, so the browser version is unlikely to be
a problem. This problem only occurs when the user attempts to add a link
after successfully logging in, searching does not cause any problems. The
exact error message appears in the main Gossamer Threads frame as follows
Code:
A fatal error has occurred:
Undefined subroutine &main::fatal called at
/export/dev/www/centres-cgi/admin/admin.cgi line 45.
Please enable debugging in setup for more details

Code:
After this error occurs once, Gossamer Threads remains unavailable to all
other users for approximately 10 minutes. Does Gossamer Threads require
cookies or particular variables to be set in the browser. This problem is
either with the individual client machines, the internet server or the
software. Because we cannot dictate the set up of client machines we need a
software fix for this problem.

Chris,

I'm not as qualified as some here to diagnose deeply rooted problems but if you'd like to eliminate the possibility of cookies, in Admin|Setup|User Options there's an optionn called user_sessions that "Use cookies to store session information, or pass it through the URL." By default it is set to Cookies. Might be worth a try.

What is the problem you are having?

I'm running multiple copies of Links SQL on Solaris, and do not have this problem.

There _ARE_ problems with MSIE and cookies. It doesn't remember, and forget, cookies properly. It can confuse cookies if you log in as one user, log out, and log back in as another.

These cookie problems have been discussed before, and I don't know if there is a back-end solution to it.

When I'm doing alot of work on my servers, I log in as the admin on one machine, then use another machine to log in and out as the various users. It helps keep things from getting confused.

But, it's not a "links" problem, per se. It's really a browser/cookie problem.

Hi,

Change line 45 in admin.cgi from `fatal` to `Links::fatal` and let me know what the error says. Sorry about not seeing this sooner!

Cheers,

Alex
