Simple method for lowercase build URL?

Simple method for lowercase build URL?
If I have a category called Actors/D_to_F/Robert_De_Niro

It currently builds the URL as http://www.mysite.com/..._to_F/Robert_De_Niro

How can I change Links (3.10) to build the URL in lower case, i.e. www.mysites.com/actors/d_to_f/robert_de_niro

I would prefer find a way of doing it rather than using a rewrite command. Is it easiest to have lowercase category names and then make them upper case in the category template? I read that might be the best solution? If so, is there a way of making the names upper case again in the category drop down on the add.cgi page as well?

Thanks :)

Check out the StaticURLtr plugin if you're building static pages (a free plugin available in the plugin download area). That has the ability to lowercase the url as well as doing other transformations on the url.

Thanks for the tip. I installed the plugin and also I click edit and changed it to Yes for lowercase. Apart from lowercase there isn't really anything else I need doing. I click build and it still did capital category names. I guess I must be missing something else?

Hrm, looks like a small quirk in the code. You need to have at least one replacement before it will work (I'll fix that for the next release). Just add a replacement like _:_ and it should work. One that a lot of SEO people like is the ' :-' (space to -).

Thanks for that, I thought I was going mad :)

As for the spaces, all my spaces in category names are already _ (underscore). I've read a lot about the advantages of - vs _ but what's your opinion on the best one? i.e. robert-de-niro/index.html vs robert_de_niro/index.html

"-" over "_" all the way.

Interesting, thanks. I'd say that _ is more traditional/common though? Do you have a reason for your choice? Thanks!

Generally googling your question produces good amount of results. http://www.google.com/...hyphen+vs+underscore

I would recommend you to search this board/forum too.

Hope this helps.

Yes I am well aware of google and I've been around here long enough to know there is a search feature, I was asking your reason for saying what you said.
