recommend script for links-SQL 2
hello does anybody have a recommend script for links-sql2
in which i can recommend a site in my directory with template based output.
There is one for Links-SQL 1.11 (from PUGDOG Enterprises, Inc.)
but i don't know how to modify it for links-SQL 2

I'll probably get around to modifying it. It's only a few changes, since it's mostly an external script. It only needs to have new headers and display calls.

Thanks :)

I'll make the url available from the FAQ area. I've got a lot of stuff in the works, but I need to get all my scripts together in one place, and I'll probably make that the place.

pugdog ... wonderinf if you like the idea of:

1) Having a table for email addresses etc of people that have been referred.
2) Have a checkbox type thing so that the user could sign up for the newsletter.

perhaps make it into a plugin for gossamer-threads.

just suggestions. I am working on one like this in php for vbulletin so may encorporate it over here though.

You've lost me.

A "table of email addresses?" ?? From where? What addresses?

Also, where would the check box be? I'm not following.

But any of those features could be added to the template, and then just passed into the script for processing. They don't seem to be part of the 'recommend it' process, which means either bloating the script, or passing it down the line to another script.

But, I'm not sure I really understand what you are asking.

sorry it was not very clear.

I was thinking of a recording the email addresses from people that send and people who are sent the recommendation. The checkbox would be to allow the person recommending the site to sign up for the site's newsletter. One purpose i can see of having the recommended urls stored is because i wanted to send repeat messages. This would mean you would get a url like

http://www.site.com/in.cgi?id=454 when you are sent an email. If the url is not clicked on then a week later you get another email reminding you to visit. Of course there is a http://www.site.com/stop.cgi?id=454 to stop repeat messages.

It is not essential, i am doing it in php now. I just think the recommend it script is such a useful thing but there seems to be a lack of a really advanced one avaliable. I can't do it in cgi but will try in php.

Ouch...

I really did make that script a walk-through in making an add on! I'm going to strip out all the excess comments, and streamline it. Might have it later today, or by the end of the weekend for sure.

I hadn't rebuilt the site in awhile, and had been using page.cgi.

My rewrite rules goto /pages rather than /page.cgi

That will get fixed later on. For now, i rebuilt the site. It should all work now.

The new version is listed on the FAQ site in the Add-Ons area.

Let me know if there are any problems. I tried to add some error code, and hit some funny problems that I couldn't solve. But I yanked out a lot of the comments and cleaned things up. Should work better.
