Who's your host?

Who's your host?
I got 7,000 sites in LinksSQl, and I can't update cause my build all, won't make it all the way through once, since my server(communitech) cuts off scripts after 5 minutes. So I was just wondering what host everyone uses and # of links, also if you had any problems, Thanks!

hello
Well on most servers they will cut you off after a shorter time than 5 minutes due to memory usage. and that is where Build Staggered comes at.
try that option first and it should work.
I am with http://wantsomegetsome.net/ and I have over 7000 links. Build all does not work.
but building through Build Staggered or through telnet, both will not consume the memory and work as a charm.

I know the Build staggered doesn't work for me from the web, but I did not try from telnet. What is the command? To build all from telnet I type:
perl /public_html/sites/admin/nph-build.cgi --all
But when I tried....
perl /public_html/sites/admin/nph-build.cgi --staggered
It does not work

If you type

perl /path/to/nph-build.cgi

.....you should get a list of commands you can use.

Hi, That's the thing, I don't see anything for staggered. Here's what I get...
Usage:
/public_html/sites/admin/nph-build.cgi --all
/public_html/sites/admin/nph-build.cgi --changed
/public_html/sites/admin/nph-build.cgi --repair
/public_html/sites/admin/nph-build.cgi --flags

where:
--all will rebuild all html pages.
--changed will rebuild home, new, cool, and detailed/category pages
that have changed.
--repair will rebuild the link counts in the category tables.
--flags will update the new, cool and popular flags.

Hi,

You can't use staggered from telnet (as you would have to manually do each phase).

I would consider a different host. I know Communitech puts upto 1,000 accounts per server, so you have to realize the amount of computing power you get is very small.

Cheers,

Alex

Alex, is there any host you recommend?

Me :)

I hate the thought of advertising my own service seeing as I tell others not to do it but you did ask.

If you were on my server you would currently only be sharing with 10 other sites and we will install any perl modules you need but most needed to run Links SQL are already installed.

You can read more here.....

http://www.wiredon.net/hosting/

Our line provider is upgrading their network at the end of the month also which will allow upto 100mbps and there are only 5-10 servers on their network.

I can also help you if you run into any Links SQL installation probs for free.
