multiple domain static build

multiple domain static build
Hi,

is there an (easy) way to build multiple static pages for a links-directory for different domains on the same server?

example:

domain1.com points to directory1

domain2.com points to directory2

cgi-bin for domain1.com and domain2.com has the same path

build domain1.com static-pages as usual via LinksSQL into directory1

and then build static-pages for domain2.com using TEMPLATE2 into directory2.

Regards,
Manu

I am not an expert on this, but I would GUESS that you would either need to hack a LOT of code (double up all build options for domain1.com and then domain2.com, and hard-coding those URL's into the build routines), or have multiple config files (which would entail hacking, too.)

I would think the best and EASIEST bet would be two different installs that share the same database. I have done something similar once when I was beta testing GTComm... (then I found it was easier- and SAFER- to just build a whole new database with a different prefix, and just copy over the users....)

I have plans to include this possibility in the next major release(version 2) of the PageBuilder plugin.

Hi Yogi,

this would be really great !

I think it's a task of creating additinal CFGs

->use template XY

->build_root_url:

->build_root_path

->use_domain_name: www.xy.com

etc.

I hope you get this task working!

Manu

You will be able to define a lot of configuration variables for the additional builds.

- template set to be used
- all the paths and urls (also for new/cool)
- a lot of the variables on the 'Setup->Build' page

As you said, there will be only one version of the add/modify etc scripts, but the output can be configured through templates.

I will start working on this in April.

Uupps,

sorry my mistake, I don't know why, but when posting my message I thought this was a topic from last year.

By the way ....

I also have the idea to build promotion-pages on a couple of domains by links which should be a bridge to the top-domain. Probably the same what Manu is interesting in.

Is this something that will still be available in the next version of PageBuilder?

How would you search the different domains, though, using a single script?

I just did a job for something like this... pretty cool idea. Basically, you have different config files. The script goes through, does some renaming stuff to the config files, runs a build, loads the next config file, does another build, and once it reaches the end, it restores the default ConfigData.pm file. Only limitation is scripts like search.cgi, add.cgi, etc.

Cheers
