Neatest thing I've ever seen!

Neatest thing I've ever seen!
Greetings!

I just came upon a search engine (http://www.wisenut.com) that allows you to "sneak-a-peek" at the intended website within the search results.Smile They use javascript and some iframe tags to get this done and it is the coolest thing I've ever seen. Now if I just could do the same thing in LinkSql I would be a happy camper.

Go see for yourself with this sample search and click on "sneak-a-peek".

Interesting, but frivolous, if not goofy... What's the advantage over just opening the "sneak peak" site in a new window? Either way, you have to wait for it to load. Seems like all it accomplishes is slowing down the loading of the on-site page.

The advantage is the CONVENIENCE of not having to open and close yet another window and deal with the oftentimes annoying popups. And I don't believe it slows down the loading of the "on-site" page because the sneak-a-peek page is not actually loaded until you click on the link.

I was referring to the page's code required to build all that stuff under the hood. Seemed to slow it down significantly.

I don't see how opening a window is an inconvenience. Either way, you're clicking on a mere one link to open a window (or open the link in the same window if that's how the directory is set up) or view the sneak peak... Closing the window again only requires one click, which coincidentally is exactly the same number of clicks as it takes to close the sneak peak window! Now, I suppose you could make a case that numerous sneak peak windows could be left open, but I would counter that that aesthetical sloppiness outweighs the monumental task of that one click to close the big bad window...

maybe that explains why my site is at the bottom and not at the top....

I must say that Wisnut "Sneak a Peek" is pretty slick! I'd be very doing something like this on my site as well. A slightly larger IFrame in my detailed pages would be hot.

I apologize for being off-topic, but does anyone know what they use to create the thumbnail screenshots? I have been trying to find a way to integrate that feature into my Links site.

Jack-

Thanks for pointing out the Sneak-a-Peak feature at Wisenut. I think it is an excellent feature for a search engine. In my case it makes it much more efficient for me to quickly evaluate sites on the results page to see which ones meet my needs. If the site looks good, I then click to open a full window. If not, I just close it up and continue down the list. I also would love to integrate something like this into my own Links SQL directory.

Wink I really like the function in http://find.walla.co.il/ts.cgi?q=yoga, is it possible to integrate this feature in Links SQL? Also, is it possible to add other popular search engine's searching function in Links SQL.

I really want someone can help me to integrate this features in my Links SQL.
