Avail Updates impatience
I see the message "3 recommended updates" from admin of 2.99.0, but clicking "show all", shows nothing :-)

Am I just too impatient, and the message is up, but not the update?

Please accept my apologies, I realize it is Sun, AND Easter, but I am wondering why a few others have been able to install the RC version of gLinks, and I for some reason am unable to update from 2.99.0, even though it says there are updates available.

It would be nice to know if I "should" be able to update, or if there is some other problem going on.
The fact that I cannot log into licensed download area has also got me confused.

Again I apologize for being impatient ( as the subject states ) Cool

Thanks,
Chris

You should be able to update. Take a look at my post in here (which btw, has gone terribly off topic).

Got the update, thanks everyone at GT!

As for your post going off topic, that seems to happen a lot. We need a better (more folders) in these forums to help narrow down or organize the 1/4 million posts on this site Cool

GT Updater should show filesizes, too.
It's interesting, that you can't estimate how long an update will took...
Also I don't have too much free space, so this is important information!

Further suggestion:
The update files in /tmp directory should be compressed into ZIP file.
I can not afford so much unnecessary files taking so much place...

Hi,

While those are good suggestions, are you really running with that little free space? Most file systems performance degrade a lot when you start running at 90+ percent capacity. Or are you just reaching a disk quota?

Cheers,

Alex

No. This is just my 300 Mb development filesystem, which contains all my developments. Full backups are easier for that smaller size. I should now extend to 600 Mb.
Smaller size was advantage while I did CD backups. Now DVD backups makes possible bigger backups.

Performance doesn't matter locally on my offline Win system, but does on the online Linux system.
On the online webservers, people usually have limited space, so some ZIP compressing would be still valid.

I do prefer ZIP over TAR.GZ, so ZIP is te keyword. The ZIP is easier to use on Win, also usable under Unix. As for permissions under Unix, there could be an index file, which contains additional info about each file, including permission, description, etc...

For both upgrades and backups ZIP compression would be necessary (or at least for backups).
I use Archive::Zip for such tasks. Well usable, tough early versions had some bugs.
