Thankyou and giving back

Thankyou and giving back
I have just launched the site significant-media.com.

First of all Id like to thank both GT and the GT Community, everybody has provided an enormous amount of support. I have learnt a great deal in the process about Perl, Links, XHTML, CSS, design and still have a lot more to learn :). To give back to the GT Community I expect to explain how I obtained certain effects/functions. Some of the functions are down to plug-ins, others from globals and finally extensive template modifications. Ill try to cover as many as I can here in the forum or on the site.

Id especially like to thank several people that have provided help, support and advice, without which I would not have been able to achieve so much. First of all I would like to thank Gossamer Threads, in particular Jack, Virginia and Alex but also Adrian, Jason, Aki and Tarrin. From the GT Community I have would specially like to thank Andy, Laura, pugdog, Yogi and Philip (aka fuzzylogic) but also minesite, HyperTherm, webmaster33, SWDevil.Com, Chaz, sangiro and sorry if I have forgotten others that have helped out

I have exclusively used Links and Links plug-ins for the site. I use several mod_rewrite rules and the site runs under mod_perl so I obviously chose GT to host the site. The site uses valid XHTML and CSS nearly all pages are XHTML 1.0 Strict. I also designed the pages and did the artwork. I hope this personal site can inspire others to use Links.

Some areas that you may want to look at :
A graphic version of the categories directory page :
http://www.significant-media.com/mag/
A modified version of the popular page using afnirs plug-in :
http://www.significant-media.com/popular.html
A contact page for a specific member using Andys plug-in
http://www.significant-media.com/contact/user/jag

Note : the whole site is dynamically generated

I have taken care in the design process but should you see any issues please drop me a PM so that I can rectify it :)

Thanks all again,
John

Hi John,

Congrats on the launch of the site. It does look very good.. you have done a wonderful job.

A suggestion
-------------
I hope you don't mind, however I would like make a small suggestion.

Instead of having just 'read more' as a link. Also have title of the article as Link. I actually tried to click that before I saw the 'read more' link. Also a title link would help 'little more' from seo point of view as compared to 'read more' link - just a thought.

Again nice site and congratulations.

Vishal

Hi Vishal,

Yes I think you're right on a usability expectation that is most probably what many people will expect. I have done the mod Wink

Thanks (again, again) Tongue

Nice site,

look at this page:
http://www.significant-media.com/mag/

under "Articles Sorted by Type"

Selection of Web & Flash sites
Art, Object, Tech, Design
Books, Films, TV, Theatre & Music

all bring up:
Invalid SiteHTML method: site_html_nos_blogs_et_recits (nos_blogs_et_recits.html). The template does not exist in 'smdot'.

peace.
