No Categories after Update! Help

No Categories after Update! Help
When preparing to update to the beta version I copied all Linkssql files to a cd. I failed to run a def's backup. I have checked the def's on the cd and they are identical to the files on the server. However When I go to validate new links there are no categories. NONE! I try to list them all and nothing.

So once I try to build I will have a huge mess. Does anyone have any ideas on how to repair this?

This problem is a little worse than I suspected. I don't have any links either.

I don't want to touch anything. I fear that I have a lot of work ahead of me. I am glad that I only have 500 links.

Any help would be much appreciated.Crazy

Did you add a "weight" to the Links and Categories tables?

If you did, did you re-index?

If you added a "Weight" did you hit resync? If so, make sure your weights are still in the boxes and have not been reset to 0.

Well I don't remember altering anything todo with a weight. But I tried to reindex. It said 0 indexing 0 links and 0 categories. So then I tried resync. It said your links have now been resynced. So I gave it a build and now I have nothing.Shocked UGH!

If something was set to zero that should not be how would I know. I have checked the validate screen but nothing jumps out.

Help!!! PLease!!!

I have found a good copy of the backup file. I have tried to import the backup file. It did not work and I have found that this is by design.

I have searched this forum for the last 1 hr and 35 minutes and I still am unable to find the proper way to use the
"load from infile". Is there anyone who is willing to provide me with a little instruction so I can get that big 0 links off my site.

Thanks in advance.

The import routines work now, in the current beta, or are supposed to.

Because of the new category format, you can't really "load" the links any more. You have to use the import.

Ok I am a little lost here now. Let me start from scratch.

I updated to the beta version. I had a lot of errors and the pages would not build.

So When I went back to linkssql the 1.11(or 1.13 ?) I had no links or categories. I tried the resync and what not and then built I now have nothing.

Let me see if I understand what you are recommending in this last post. That I should remove the beta version and reinstall. Then when I go to import I should do it from the backup?

If this is not what you meant I am really lost.

Thanks for your patience.

Now I'm confused.

Did you erase your 1.1x installation?

Is your database itself empty?

What backup files do you have?

No I did not erase the 1.1. But after the update I went back to links 1.1. I went to validate links because I had three additions to database. When I clicked on validate I had no categories for those additions to choose from. I guess that I was not clear on this at the beginning of this thread. Links 1.1 has lost all of its data. I have no links and no categories. I tried to resync then a build and now if you goto http://www.associatecash.com/sqlpages
It shows that I now have zero links.

So right now I am trying to get my original site back up and running. What a nightmare!

Oh to answer your other question. I did copy all 1.1 files to cdrom. The back up files appear to be good. So I am now desperately trying to restore the backup data.

You didn't use a "prefix" when you created your new tables, did you?

You also told it to "overwrite" all the tables.

You lost your database, actually, and you'll have to import/restore from the backup directory.

You need to import each of the files back into the 1.13 version. You need to have a database file for the upgrade's import function to work.

I don't know if you can do a flat-file import, since you still won't match up the categories.

Hopefully you have a backup available!!

I only followed the instructions to a tee. No prefix. I never had the option to overwrite all the tables. Not sure where I would of had this opportunity.

Ok Yes I have to update all of the files to 1.13 version. That is exactly what I don't know how to do. I had a database when starting the beta install. Then it was gone after I tried to import.

I searched and searched this forum yesterday looking for the procedure to load from the infile. But I was unable to find clear instructions. And I have already botched things enough. I would really like to find clear instructions on how to restore my data in the original links sql 1.13.

I got mysqlman working. Although I have not idea how to use it either. It sure looks like the data is still in the database. I am really puzzled.

This is a complicated issue, more so trying to explain it.

PUT YOUR BACK UPS IN A SAFE PLACE!!! YOU MAY NEED THEM MORE THAN ONCE!!

If you have data in the database, and you didn't change anything in the 1.13, then if you add weights to the tables and re-index, you should see your links on a search. Either way, you should see them when you build the site.

STEP BY STEP:

You need to look at your links DATABASE in mySQLMan,

What does it show for the tables Category, Links, and Users ??

Re: No Categories after Update! Help In reply to
Category shows 0. Category alternates showes 62
Links shows 0. Users 0.

But I noticed that Search_Log has 547.

Category Alternates has 62.

Hits Track,Rate Track,Subscribe, and Validate all have values as well. I think that validate has exactly how many I have awaiting validation.

I will wait patiently. I don't know how to proceed.

P.S. I have duplicate copies of my backup data currently. I really hope that this can be remedied prior to manual entry.

Ok, I figured this out. It really was not as hard as I had suspeted. The first time using mysqlman and it saved my butt.

If someone could just respond and tell me if I did this correctly I would really appreciate it.

Just login to your mysql database using mysqlman.

Your list of Tables should be displayed.

Click on insert.

When that screen is displayed you could manually enter all of the fields or you could select import. Not wanting to sit here cutting and pasting for the next week I chose import.

Then you just enter the path to your backup/Categories file and press import.

I did not see the need to change anything because the field was empty. And walla it worked.

I followed these sames steps for Categories,Links,Subscribers.

Then a quick build and I am back in business.

One last question. I have in the backup Categories,Categories.1,.2,.3 all the way to 8. Are these just the 8 previous backups?

If it worked... Great! you should be back in business.

The ...1...8 are the last 8 backups. They are in "sets" so that category.8 is matched with Links.8, etc.

The _best_ way to back up though, is to use the MySQL Dump procedure, and dump out your database to a file. You want to dump your DATA with create-table statements. This file can then be read into MySQL and it will recreate everything the way it was at the moment of the last back up.

Links should _really_ have been exporting the Links, Category, Users, Subscribers, etc in the mysqldump format anyway. It's a lot _better_ than flat-file dumps. It's ASCII, and can be moved from any MySQL running machine to any other.
