The FAQ site is really dusty.
There just isn't enough time/man power to maintain it. If anyone is interested, I can set up editors there and let you try. My goal was to keep the most asked questions available, and to add in all the perls, tidbits ,and code fragments/globals that were offered up. Right now things are just a mess :(
FWIW: I've moved the FAQ to
http://PugDocs.com, to highlight they are my work/effort not a GT product (my choice, not something GT asked me to do). We've spent as much time creating a brand or two (PUGDOG®, Digital Postcards®, etc) as Alex has, so we wanted to maintain it, and not dilute our (or his) image on the net. I'm in the process of transferring a bunch of domains to Alex that I got to prevent others from using Links SQL inappropriately, and giving him more control of his product (again, my choice for his wonderful work and efforts to my needs). I'm not sure he wanted the LinksSQLFAQ.com/LinkSQLFAQ.com names, but he's welcome to them if he wanted to set up an FAQ site. I'd also be happy to work on that site, and maintain documentation if there were a few more tools available to do it. I've been quiet here lately, but I've still been using Links SQL since beta pre-1.0 and have quite a few sites based on GT's engine technology of which Links SQL is the the heart.
I made a suggestion to Alex awhile back he didn't comment on, on renovating the FAQ area here, allowing the moderators to create an FAQ out of forum posts with a click or two <G> It would essentially elevate the "signal" and eliminate the "noise" from targeted searches.
There is a wealth of data here. I lost about 2 years worth "gems" and tidbits when my computer was stolen, but most of that info is still locked away in the forum if people want to dig it out.
The idea above was to copy messages of worth to a new area, and keyword them separately. This would preserve them, and give them major priority in a search. It would cut the noise, while still allowing some background noise to come through.
Not whole threads, just the "meat" of the thread with the final working solution and/or the things to avoid. Sometimes what doesn't work is as helpful as what does.
Anyway, there have been a number of attempts to do this in the past, mine was just one, but I put a lot of effort into for version 1.1x, then my life took a few pretty rough turns, and it got neglected. I tried again with version 2.0, but never had enough time to do it myself.
