Links 2.1.0 Upgrade Problems

Links 2.1.0 Upgrade Problems
Greetings!

Well I just tried an upgrade from Links 2.0.5 to Links 2.1.0 Beta 1 and it did not go all that well! Luckily, this is just on my home installation - I tend to try it out there first before going live!

It would appear that the upgrade instructions in the archive conflict with the upgrade instructions that were posted by Alex in the Announcements Forum. In the archive it states to just follow the normal upgrade procedures (however in 'Announcements' it says to do a fresh install).

Unfortunately, because it is a fresh install I have not been able to work out how to import all my data into the new database - as I also have a large number of custom fields for data.

A handy 'step-by-step' guide to upgrade existing installations along the above scenario would be most helpful.Sly

Regards,

Clint.

If you read Alex's announcement it says do not try to upgrade.

Paul,

Is there an import function of 2.05 databases?

Hi,

You should not upgrade a 2.x with the 2.1 beta. The upgrade code is not tested enough yet. You should only do a new install of 2.1 into a separate directory, and into a separate database (or the same database, but with a different table prefix).

Although I haven't tried this, if you goto Database->Import/Export->Backup and backup your 2.0.5 to a file, you should be able to restore it to 2.1.0.

Cheers,

Alex

Alex,

today I made a new install of 2.05 in a new directory and got a backup of the 2.03 db imported into the new install, because I need to modify and test a lot.

Can I do the same with 2.1

Create new and then import the dumped db (by mysqlman)?

Hi,

Yes, the only thing that won't work is running install.cgi and selecting upgrade.

Alex:

Thanks for the advice. There was no harm done as I always test things out on my home computer before 'going live'.

The export followed by the import worked fine - just had to manually add my custom fields etc.

I did however receive the following error after repairing tables and then trying to rebuild the search (don't know whether this is a bug you need to know about or something screwy is happening).

A fatal error has occured:Undefined subroutine &main::do_nothing called at /path/to/admin/GT/Plugins.pm line 102.

Thought I should let you know.

I have the same error,

Undefined subroutine &main::do_nothing called at /home/......./public_html/sql/php/admin/GT/Plugins.pm line 102

I installed 2.1 and imported a 2.03 db

I added contact_email and contact_name fields to links tables

The field category_template was present, I did not need to add.

I have 3 categories, only 2 categories contains records before importing.
After import all links was copied in 1 category.

Links SQL is now going to re-index your database, please be patient, this can take a while. Please note: this is only neccessary if you have manually changed the database outside of Links SQL.
