I've successfully installed Gossamer LinksSQL 3.x on a mac OS X 10.3.9 server. I'm having difficulty using .htaccess protection for the /cgi-bin/admin directory. .htaccess works fine in all of the document directories of my virtual domains stored on the server, but .htaccess will not protect the admin.cgi stored in the above directory. The problem must be specific to my <virtual..> cgi-bin configuration in the httpd.conf file -- but I don't know what it is.
When I open the web page to the admin.cgi, red warning message that the admin directory is not protected. Using the admin.cgi interface to create admin accounts and passwords (.htaccess and .htpasswd are clearly updated as seen in the web interface and via pico in the text window), I'm never challenged to provide credentials and the red warning message never changes. If Gossamer Links admin control panel can manipulate the .htaccess and .htpasswd files, how does the admin.cgi know the admin directory is not protected?
Does anyone have experience like this?
Thank you.
