How to allow HTML AND links in desc
Hello All-

I am adding links from the admin and have added an additional description textarea field for the details template page. I am able to add HTML but for some reason the HTML links aren't working. They are getting confused with my categories or something. I get the error We don't seem to have a category by the name The field is pretty straightforward - it's just an extra description field.

I'm thinking it's a simple thing? I searched but the results were mainly for removing HTMLWink

Thanks in advance-

M

Make sure you actually set the category name when you add a link from the admin.

Do you get this error message when you click on the link on the details page or when you try to add the link to the database?

On this particular occasion, I was adding from Browse. I'll try from the database add link and see what happens.

And the error appears when I click on the link on the details page. From the front end.

I added from the database add link and still it isn't working. Did you mean add the link from the front end? I don't have that field set up to allow users to add additional description to the details page.

This is really weird - I am linking to pdf files which are under the same domain as the site. I tried to link to an outside site and worked fine. maybe I'll have to move some things around and check it out then. I guess there's a conflict somehow.

What does the link look like? Can you give us an example page with a link on? Have you got http://www.yourdomain.com at the beginning of the link? If not, try putting a / in front of it?

Just had another thought - are you using rewrite rules on your site? Maybe you've put the pdf files within a directory that is rewritten by your rules?

Hi anflr-

Here's the offending page Tongue

http://www.howtomakestuff.com/...e.cgi?ID=248&d=1

There are the 4 links to pdf files which I have on the server ( I did double check to make sure they were in the right file - I've been caught on mistakes like those before ). I did have a markup global which I removed. But still no luck. I have a ton of these printables I want to add or I wouldn't have made such a bother.

And another weird thing. If you mouse over the links, they look fine. And I tried both ways, the first using the http://www and the others without the www.

Thanks very much for your efforts. Smile

I don't think you can link to files with other extensions like this (could be wrong though). g= expects an index.html (or whatever extension you have in your admin setup). I would link to them statically with the direct url.

However, if you change to a static site and link to the static urls (which should work) I get a 404 not found error:

http://www.howtomakestuff.com/...n_luminariaghost.pdf

So I'm not sure that they really are in the right place?

Hi -

OMG - I am a ding dong - of course it's always those diddly things that get me good. I added another underscore in the file name. Jeez Blush

At times like these I always feel better when I recall the story my Uncle said about the Bell South ( Ma Bell back then) think tank. That as smart as a person can be, that doesn't always guarantee common sense. One of the geniuses never could remember to exit the restroom with a zipped fly.

Afinlr - Thanks for your help!!
