I had a problem editing a plug in I uploaded myself (permissions, I know).
But the problem was the plug-in editor said the tar file was SUCCESSFULLY updated, when it really should have returned a "can't update" due to permissions error.
When I set the plug-in to 777 it worked... so it's the error reporting that is the problem.
I thought I had changed the permissions, and because I didn't get a file write error as in the past, I didn't immediately occur to me that was the problem.
