500 Internal Server error

500 Internal Server error
I downloaded the gossamerlinks 3.20 version and installed it on a new server yesterday and it worked. However, something did not seem right so I deleted all files from the server and went to reinstall at www.findachurchtoday.com/cgi-bin/install.cgi and get a "500 Internal Server error page.

I contacted the support at my server and they said it was the cgi file that was a problem. I tried installing it on several domains and two differant servers and get the same response each time.

So I erased everything and tried again, I made a fresh download, and unarchived the file, and reinstalled it only to get the same error.

I ftped install.cgi in ascii, and install.dat in binary and changed the permissions on install.cgi to 755 and the directory to 777. I am stumped.

Any help out there?

God Bless

I attached the error log from my server.

Is there any way to see the server's error logs? That will likely tell you why it actually caused an Internal Server error.

Edit: oh, I see you said you attached the error log, but I don't see it attached.

Unfortunately, that doesn't help very much. Do you have ssh access to the server?

I don't think so. I use a plesk 6 panel to enter in to the domains. and I ftp through cuteftp.

Hi,

If its Plesk, I think they are weird about having directories that are executing .cgi script, set to 777.

Try setting /cgi-bin to just 755, and see if that helps? If not, send over FTP access - and I'll take a look for you (free ;))

Hi,

Mmm.. ok - let me have a look.

BTW, you should never post FTP access on a forum (even if its just a "temp" setup)

Ive edited it out for you.

Cheers

Hi,

Mmm.. its looking like its mostlikely a mess up with the server setup somewhere (hard to tell for sure without SSH/Telnet)

http://www.findachurchtoday.com/cgi-bin/test.cgi

Thats just a basic test script:

Code:
#!/usr/bin/perl

print "Content-Type: text/html \n\n";
print "FOO";

May be worth contacting your host, to see if they can look into why .cgi scripts are not working for you (its definatly not a problem with GLinks - as the test script prooves)

Hope that helps.
