Hmm, what should the behaviour be? Would you want to see the entire category name, or just the level below?

Cheers,

Alex

Would want to see the category name, one of them seems to work fine it is the others that don't.

Sorry, they all seem to work? You have the main category:

Home : TV Series : Stargate

Then related to that are:

Home : People : Actors & Actresses : A : Anderson, Richard Deen
Home : E-Fiction : Fan Fiction : Televison : Stargate
Home : Merchandise & Shopping : TV Show Merchandise : Stargate
..

So what it does is to display the related ones, it puts:

Anderson, Richard Deen@
Stargate@
Stargate@
..

I think what you are saying is why are they all named stargate? Well, that's because the last part of each name is Stargate. What should the program display there?

Cheers,

Alex

ekk... i hoped you would not get here before me, and you just beat me. I realised i was being stupid :)

basically, i would want one of the category names higher up, for example merchandise or fan fiction as the name. As i have for example

> TV Series > Stargate

and

> Fiction > Stargate

I want

> Fiction > Stargate to be a subcategory of > Tv Series > Stargate but not be lited as @stargate but as @fiction.

So...

1) Is it possible to be able to make it that relations can have something type in to overrid what they "should appear as" or can we set the level of the category that we want so in case of

Home : E-Fiction : Fan Fiction : Televison : Stargate

I would go back to Fan Fiction.

Thanks Alex, your personal attention to all these questions and comments is really appreciated :) a lot better than the support i am getting at the other major script that runs my site!

Any news on this. For an example of what i want, have a look at dmoz.com

http://dmoz.org/Arts/Television/Programs/Science_Fiction/Star_Trek/

see the Action Figures@ category. Well it actually goes to
http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Collecting/Toys/Action_Figures/Star_Trek/

but of course it is useless naming it Star_Trek so the people who made the category are able to choose the category above that, Action Figures to name it that.

That is what i need to be able to do :)

Really hope it will be possible or i am going to have to completly re-evaluate how to do my database.

Hi,

No, that's possible. I'll do a test when determining the name, if it's equal to the category you are on, it will use the one above, otherwise it will use the last one (so your Richard Dean Andserson will still show up as is).

Cheers,

Alex

that would be good but still not 100% perfect as it may be that going to up in the name might be better, i will think of an example from dmoz.com soon. I know the problem with that is it is going to require an extra field to do it, but i wonder if that would not be good, having say an over write field where if there is something in it (ie a custom name) then it uses that otherwise not. I have to admit i don't know the table structure that well yet so not sure if this will work.

But what you suggested is still brilliant and will mean i can keep my current system so i look forward to seeing it :)

Thanks Alex.

Hi,

I haven't installed any of the V2.0 alpha's but I came across the potential for this problem in LSQL 1.13 after adding the 'link_to' @ mod. The mod only works because you add the URL yourself, so you have complete control over 'where' the realted category jumps to and also the 'name' of the realted category that gets displayed, i.e.;

Stamp Collecting@ - Recreation_and_Hobbies/Collecting/Stamps
Stamp Dealers@ - Shopping_and_Services/Antiques_and_Collectibles/Stamps

Maybe, in addition to the default 'automatic' behavior, you could add an optional field for Related Category Name that Links would use in the first instance?

Another potential problem is moving/deleting categories - will LSQL V2.0 adjust 'related@' categories based on changes made to the "parent"?

All the best
Shaun

Yes, any changes made to the parent will adjust the related entries.
