bad link plugin?
Does anybody have a bad link plugin script? So the users can report bad link and optional comment why they think the link should be removed.

I need some better bad link report system. The free one from the plugins download is so bad that I would send the programmer who made it to prison for at last 5 years. Tongue

I don't think he's even got enough time at the moment to do his own stuff, let alone re-write free stuff :P (I havn't heard from him in over a month Unimpressed)

Who ever would rewrite it should make some profit on it. I would gladly pay for plugin like this. I don’t think I’m the only one who needs this bad link report system

Hi,

I would highly recommend using Andy's safe_jump plug-in !

I started using the bad-link plug-in and thought the idea of getting people to tell me when a link wasn't working was a great idea and with some simple testing with friends testing it most of them didn't even bother to notify using it and others when I asked didn't realise it was for that, followed by people who said : "I couldn't be bother or didn't have the time".

The idea of the safe_jump system the way I use it is that it tests the link very quickly first and then leads to a page when there is an error that informs people in plain English (French in my case) what error was encountered and allows them to try again and/or directly without the test the link.
An email is sent to alert the owner of the link of the error encountered...

That basically covers all of my above issues that I encountered with the bad_link plug-in and provides a better user experience...

So if on top of that you don't like the way the bad_link plug-in is written why hesitate...

Hi,
There is another version of it that I worked with Andy on and that also picks up links in a database field and has the links managed through a similar safe_jump script.

Just in case this may help you because I find it great as you can see Wink:

I've just re-installed the bad_link plug in. I like it, it works well for me especially in catching those links that suddenly re-direct to a porn site or whatever which the users can report. There was a way of viewing and deleting the reported bad links through the Database Editor in Links Admin. Far easier than doing it from the plug in itself. I got the code for it years ago from this forum but I can't find it now so if anyone can help with that?....

I'm a little wary of using something like safe-jump because Links isn't always accurate in getting dead links. For instance I have around 60 links to .tk domains in my database and Links reports them all as 'could not connect' even though the links are good.

Hi Triffid,

Maybe you could PM Andy with some examples so that he can test them on one of his servers, see how safe_jump handles them.

As I said I have given some thought to the way I use it and I modified mine in order to provide a bit more explanation about a link error than just 404. But to further your remarks I then have below the message two links that are clearly identified as being a link to the same site using safe_jump to test again or to test the link without safe_jump so that they can try without the error checking. Does this sound to cover certain cases where the system may have mis-read the code returned ?
