Gossamer Plugins
We have the following plugins that we will work on as time permits:

YahooSubcats
------------
This allows you to automatically generate a subcategory listings underneath your main category like Yahoo.

SearchLogger
------------
This allows you log all search queries that are made and browse them in the admin.

Auth_WWWThreads
---------------
This integrates your user database into WWWThreads, a third party forum software.

The above ones are all done and available for download from your admin panel.

We are also developing:

Auth_vBulletin
--------------
This integrates your user database into vBulletin, a third party forum software. We have finished this plugin and will be putting it up in a day or so.

SimpleReview
------------
This is a simple review system that lets authenticated users post reviews about links. It will be a free plugin.

Spider
------
This is a full featured, multi-threaded spider. It will be able to spider all the links in your directory, hooks into your search engine to allow users to search the spidered database, lets you easily move links into your directory from pages that have been spidered, etc. This won't be a free plugin. ETA: within 2 weeks.

BannerManager
-------------
ETA: 2 Weeks. This won't be a free plugin either. This will be a third party banner program integrated into Links SQL and distributed as a plugin file (so two click install). More details on this soon!

If you have questions about any of these, please start a new thread.

Cheers,

Alex

Alex,

Thanks for this. I actually hadn't even thought of GT in this category!

But really, do keep us appraised of what you guys are doing, so that efforts are not duplicated -- at least at first. Best use of limited time is to flesh out the system, different plug-ins, and test everything out.

Plenty of time for competition and "variety" later :)

Just my feelings, and they are not binding on anyone.... really. Just right now it looks like the more DIFFERENT things worked on, the better.

A suggestion for the Review plugin: Please make it like Widgetz's Review 1.0 or Review 2.0 So that it has a grpahical scale, stars, and page span. Also the ability to show some the of the review stats in the Detailed page is a must.

Again...just some ideas. The reviews plugin is going to be the thing that makes me make the switch to 2.0. Thanks Alex for all the work on this wonderful script.

More suggestions for reviews ...

Make (optional) allowance for HTML within the reviews,
so that they may be broken into paragraphs with headers
if needed, rather than one very long text string.

Ability to add extra fields to reviews, such as a
reviewer rating, reviewer ID, review date, image URL,
private notes, etc

Allow users to add comments or clarifications to the
review, dependent on admin/moderator approval.

Really looking forward to the spider and the banner manager. I assume that the spider will allow us to pull alternate results from other search engines/directories? Would it have the same functionality as a metacrawler? Also, will it be possible to use the plugin for affiliate search engine programs?

Re: the banner program, do you have any idea which 3rd party program you will be using?

Thx

About the YahooSubcats
I do not seem to be able to make it display 2 subcats only!
any idea about how to do so?
Either SUB0 and SUB1 is returning all the subcats.

You also need to change the setup option from L to N (?) ... go to the 'manage' option on the plugin menu, then click "edit" on the plug-in you want to change the setup parameters on.

SearchLogger possible bug In reply to
I do not know if it is a bug or something else (possibly me not knowing what I am doing :))..
but I have about 50% of the terms logged inthe form of a url not a word!
Is not people searching for their links or is it the plugin?

and if it is the people trying to find their URl can I block logging in URLs?
( I have about 600 searches/day and that is where my problem is, my top searches are all URLs).

Must be your users. My searches are all keywords, no urls.

>>> can I block logging in URLs

You'd have to add some code to the plugin. if People are checking with http:// you could screen for that with a simple regex. If not, you'll have to use a more complicated regex, and it won't pick up all the possiblities.

Also, just like Jerry's review mod, please add a validation option if possible. This makes a big difference. Otherwise, I really love all the new admin features in LSQL2. Keep up the excellent work.

Alex,

Is this simple review going to allow modifications? If so please remember to plan for deletions which would also include removing a vote from the Links record as well. Jerry Su's version for 1.1x didn't allow for this, but was relatively easy to implement.

I'm extremely interested in the reviews database because it was so easy to implement as a portfolio with attachments (which by the way, was all that was needed to make the attachments feature extremely powerful and useful) I hope you plan on make a simple Attachment system available in the future. I actually can't upgrade several of my clients because there is no attachment feature and pugdogs requires more licensing and fees which clients don't understand and don't want to pay for. - eeks and =(

Peace.

p.s. love the new system!
