DirName Converter Update (from webmaster33)

DirName Converter Update (from webmaster33)
Dear LinksSQL and Links users,

I have discussed with GT and webmaster33 the possibility of an updated DirName converter compliant with Links 3.
The main idea if the plug-in is to provide conversion of characters used with accents for example to non accented characters but the plug-in also allows for much more (maybe a admin panel screenshot would help understanding?). The DirName Converter can provide such functionality for both static and dynamic pages. This plug-in provides more functionality than the plug-in Adrian/GT kindly provided Links users with. The main difference being that Adrian's plug-in only handles static pages.

Konrad has voiced his intention to update this plug-in if at least three people indicate that they are interested in using it. This was during a private email discussion so webmaster33 may want to add comments to this post if necessary.

Having voiced my own interest in seeing this plug-in updated it now only requires two other users to follow in order to provide Konrad with sufficient initial basis to carry out the necessary updates. I like to thank webmaster33 for his ongoing work and help and support personally and to many other GT users :)

Thanks John

Hi John,

Thank you John for starting this thread.

Let me list some threads related to this subject for future reference:
  • [Plugin] DirName converter plugin released
  • DirName_converter - LSQL v3.0.0 upgrade
  • [Plugin] International text converter - planned

To make understanding easier, let me show a simple example taken from DMOZ.org.
Any URLs which has international characters will look such ugly way:
    http://www.dmoz.org/World/Espa%c3%b1ol/Pa%c3%adses/Espa%c3%b1a/Educaci%c3%b3n/

After importing the category above from DMOZ.org, the Links SQL will render the following URL in static mode:
    http://www.dmoz.org/World/Espa__ol/Pa__ses/Espa__a/Educaci__n/

The plugin converts this to a SEO style, a search engine & user friendly format like this:
    http://www.dmoz.org/World/Espanol/Paises/Espana/Educacion/

Also the plugin provides several options, optimizations, which converts an ugly URL like this:
    http://www.yoursite.com/__Search_engines__/___Alta___vista____/

to a nice friendly URL like this:
    http://www.yoursite.com/Search_engines/Alta_vista/

So the plugin can be useful for anybody who uses international (non-english) or strange characters category names, or imports some parts of the DMOZ.org (this is especially true, if your import includes categories from under the main category named "World").

Yes, I wanted to update the plugin, but after Adrian released his plugin, I did not get interest from anybody to have this plugin updated, so I stopped the development of it.

Finally, let me publish here a screenshot of the plugin options on the admin interface:

The DirName_converter plugin v2.0 will be commercial plugin and will support LSQL version 3.0.
The price will be a fair low $30.
Those who donated the plugin development earlier, will get free upgrade for the commercial version,
no matter how much the donation was.

As I wrote to John, the question is, if there will be at least 3 users who are interested to buy the plugin.
Without interest there is not much sense to put more development efforts into this project.

    Best regards,
    Webmaster33
