Editor Monitor - New Version - 1.2.0

Fixes and New Features
  • Added hyperlinking to the categories listed on an editor's profile page
  • Corrected small formatting issue when there are multiple editors being listed at the bottom of the category page - no spaces between the names
  • Stage 2 of Editor Sign Up added, including customizable templates for submission emails to admin and applicant, a customizable application form accessible only by registered users, auto storing of received data in a Links table, addition of the EditorPending table to the Table Editor, admin setting of location of form success location and more.
  • Updated on-line documention to include editor sign-up installation and explaination.
  • Added Dynamic Links Directory users the ability to use 95% of the functions, including editor profile pages. This is the first release with this offered, and hopefully there won't be too many bugs!

Upgrade

Upgrade from 1.1.0 is simple, as there are no table changes. Just uninstall 1.2.0, select "no" when asked to remove tables. Then install 1.2.0. If you cannot see the new helpp information on dynamic pages and editor signup forms, then please copy the em_about.html from your tar file over the top of your exisiting em_about.html in our template directory.

Download

The new file is in the private download area.

Okay, being duncey today, I neglected to uninstall the old version. Should I reinstall or should it be okay?

How do I determine what the root_HTML_path is?

(and maybe I shouldn't try doing this stuff FIRST THING in the morning...)

Hi

I have two questions

>>Updated on-line documention to include editor sign-up installation >>and explaination.

Where is on-line documention at?

>>Added Dynamic Links Directory users the ability to use 95% of the >>functions, including editor profile pages.

What is the code change to the editor profile link cus the current tag still does not work with dynamic...

Thanks

Try copying the em_about.html from your EditorMonitor.tar file over the top of your old one in your plug-in directory. Then have a read inside this new file.

EDIT: katabd, I would not advise using the Dynamic setup in prefence to the static, if that is what you are doing. I thought your site was a static directory? CrazyIf the dynamic support proves to be too difficult I will drop it, but this version is an attempt at seeing if it will in fact be viable. I do not currently have any customers who have paid for the dynamic support (I have a user of the dynamic directory, but they have paid for the admin, not the profile page side of things).

This is the part of the docs that may help in any case:

Dynamic Directory Additional Steps

If you are running your Links SQL in the dynamic directory mode, you will need to follow these additional steps. Users of the Static setup can ignore this step.
  1. Set the RootURL setting in the EMSettings table to your root url, eg: http://www.yoursite.com (no trailing slash). You can edit the EMSetting table by selecting 'Table Editor' from your plug-in menu. Then select EMSettings, Modify and 1, and click go. Find the column marked RootURL, and click 'Modify Record' once you have editing the information.
  2. Set the Root_HTML_Path setting in plug-in options to the path to your html root directory. You can find the plug-in settings by clicking on 'Plug-in Manager' then 'Edit' for the EditorMonitor plug-in. Be sure your path does not contain a trailing slash. Example /s/mysite.com/htmldocs

UPDATE

DYNAMIC SETUPS - WORKING

This new version of EM (v1.2.0) is now working on two dynamic directory set-ups (minus the abovementioned function). So it *appears* that the dynamic mods, have rectified the problems.

This is good news for those who have dynamic setups, and wish to buy this plug-in. You still won't have all of the functions that the static setup offers, however, you will have about 95% of themWink.

I actually run two directories one static and one dynamic.. But it is not your fault but mine..

One more suggestion:

In the editor profile i think making the Editor Own sites clickable is nicer.

One more question:

How does the reward works? Does it auto add like point per action or how does it calculate the reawrds and then how do we issue the rewards..?

I really search your site and this one before i asked this question so i won't give you any more headache.. but here we are...Unsure

EDITOR REWARDS SYSTEM EXPLAINED In reply to

The rewards system is modeled after my own site, except you choose who and how to reward your editors. (I use automation and formula, which is currently beyond the scope of this plug-in due to its complexity - I have publicaly posted my formula on this forum - see directory depth).

I have designed the rewards screen into three easy to use functions.

1. Reward an Editor

This function allows you to easily select a particular editor, and give deposit an amount to their account. No need to enter the table editor! Negative numbers work also.

2. Reward all Editors

This function is for the occasion where you wish to top up all editors accounts by a certain amount. Like the other two functions, you can use negative numbers if you wished to subtract amounts from accounts!

3. Reward all Editors with a Certain Status

This function allows you to offer different reward amounts to Editors with a different status. Simply select the status (you define the different editor status levels in your editor table), then enter the amount (positive or negative) for the transaction.

Editor Monitor records the date and amount of the last transaction separately for each Editor, allowing you to keep track of your last deposits.

The rewards system is simple to use, yet a big time saver when you compare it to manually entering amounts for each editor.

I'll have a look at this for a future version.Wink

Edit: There are a couple of possibilities for this feature, but the simpler one will do for now.
  • User enters their site info in html, which makes it clickable
  • Another possibility is only the sites the user currently owns in the directory are listed, and they cannot add others (this may even be easier to add than the first point)

VOTE

CALLING ALL EDITOR MONITOR USERS

Please leave your vote for what you would like to see with regards to the webpage url's on editor profile pages.

  1. Editors can enter any link they like, and these links are converted to clickable urls.
  2. EM automatically creates a list of the links the editor has in your links directory which are also clickable and count for you hit statistcs when clicked upon. (no additional sites can be added).

Optioin 2 would mean I remove the websites from the modify profile page form, and create a new function to automatically display the editors links on their profile pages. This is what I am going to put into the upcoming user monitor also.

I will decide tommorow sometime, so please leave your comments before then if you can.

Hi Ian

I vote for option @ since the editor Site should be in the directory..

BUT if that is to be done I think having the Site name linked is nicer..

Hi Guys,

Its begining to look like option #2. (I have not heard from everyone, but this is a good start).

I will also make it a clickable Title for each link, rather than reveal the url.

VERSION 1.2.1

**IMPORTANT UPGRADE STEPS**

Please log into the paid support area for Editor Monitor on my private forum and follow the upgrade steps for two of the columns. This is going to make your Bio and Webpage fields much more flexible as compared to the existing, slightly restrictive data types used. If you don't understand what you are doing, thats ok, as long as you follow the steps, its pretty simple. If you have any problems, or would like me to do these steps for you (requires admin access, which I prefer not to do), the pm me.

You must perform these steps AFTER installing the new version. The new version has been put into the download area! The only change is the websites mod, as mentioned here.

Thanks.

I have changed the columns for 'announcements' and 'EditorNotes' to be TEXT fields rather than CHAR fields in the core EM code. If you wish to bust the 255 character limit with these fields, you may want to do the same with your current installs. This of course is not essential if you have only short announcements or notes.

For instructions on how to do this, it is pretty much the same as the upgrade instructions I posted in the paid support forum for EM.

UPDATE

I am going to have a look at the making the editor's profile pages dynamic/real time i.e. auto updating. There is already html striping and basic bad word removal, and email notification of changes to the admin. This plus a certain amount of trust in your editors I think removes the need for checking the changes BEFORE manually recreating the profile pages.

You will still have the option to keep the current manual update, just as you do now, this would be an ADDITIONAL feature for those who would like to use it. (One less thing for the webmaster to do)Wink

This means that your editor pages would be called by passing the editorname to a new cgi file:

<a href=http://www.yoursite.com/...dprofile.cgi?en=Bill >Bill</a> for example.

The editor system would have to be told which type of system you are using (by a plugin setting), and send the according information to your category tags.

I am not sure when I will get around to this, but it is something I would like to add, if people seem interested in this.

Comments welcome.

Re: [Ian] [PLUG-IN] EDITOR MONITOR v1.2.X In reply to

Version 1.2.2
Is now available in the private download area.

  • Corrected dynamic/static directory detection error
  • Corrected no removal of em_signup.cgi on removal of plug-in
  • Added dynamically created profile pages - em_profile.cgi, editormonitor.pm mods and plug-in options
  • Added new admin setting to EMSettings table which allows you to specify and limit the number of editor's links shown on their profile page. This works for both the standard and dynamically created profile page methods. If you have trouble seeing this new column after install, resync the database from your table editor/emsettings/properties/resync database
  • Corrected typo in Instructions/About - thanks Rayhne
  • Updated docs to include changes
  • Moved Root_HTML_Path setting (for dynamic directory users) from the plug-in options to the EMSettings table. This allows you to keep your path data when you do an upgrade
  • Renamed and moved SU_SuccessPath from the plug-in options to the EMSettings table (now SU_SuccessURL). This allows you to keep your url data when you do an upgrade.
  • Fixed formatting issue with the admin email received upon editor sign-up.

Upgrade does not require anything unusual. Simply uninstall your old version, select "No" to removing table information. Then install the new version. Be sure to set your path and url information in the EMSettings table. You may need to resync your database if you cannot see the new columns. Enjoy!
