Q3. How to move forum from one machine to another?
I would like to know what I need to copy, from a disaster recovery point of view, to move the whole forum from one linux box to another.

01. I assume I need to use MYSQLDUMP the whole database and copy the text file across. This bit is easy.
02. I know I need to copy a customizable file across like globals.txt across.
What other files I need to backup/copy?

Thanks in advance. Shocked

Hi,

The best thing to do is to copy your entire admin directory as well (which contains your templates and your configuration).

Thanks for your speedy response.

Since you are online, I have got a question to ask:
There are 2 globals.txt files. One in a directory called search_engine and the other is default.

What is the difference?Wink

Hi,

One globals applies to the search_engine template set, the other to the main template set (i.e. globals are only available per template set).

Hi,

I have the same question - just to make sure I understand correctly,

I re-install gforum on the 2nd linux box, setup the database as the same database name as before (does this really matter as long as in the configuration of the database in gforum is correct?)

Copy over the entire admin directory onto the new install and import the data from a mysqldump into the new database.
