TAGS on the New GT Forum
Hi to all, could you please tell me which is the goal of the TAG section of the new GT forum?
Thank you.

Hi David,

The goal of the tags system is to allow users to "tag" their posts with terms which other users may use, creating indexes of similarly-themed posts which can be browsed (ie, I want to see all posts that people have tagged as being related to "plugins"), A user might be reading a post they find interesting, and want to quickly access more posts dealing with similar subject matter - they can do so by clicking the tags that post's been marked with.

As for the tags on the GT support forum in particular, a couple of us GT staffers have started tagging posts dealing with common GT product support and customization issues, just to make those posts more prominent and accessible.

Bruce, many thanks for your fast and clear reply.
Only one more thing: the tags will help the SEO? Will the tags be indexed by search engines?
Any user will have the"power" to tag words or only moderators?
It is possible to choose the users and give this power/option?
Regards.

Tags may help SEO in terms of providing more key word terms that may be searched for, not to mention increasing browsing activity, but it isn't specifically designed to help with spidering. It's meant more to help users navigating the forum and performing in-forum searches.

By default, users can tag their own posts, and mods can tag any post they'd have edit access to. GForum 2 will include an option to globally enable/disable tagging. We're mulling over various ideas for implementing selective tagging privileges and how detailed those would be.
