Sort by last post and searches
The forum does not seem to sort search results by last post correctly.

Hmm thinking about it....is it meant to sort that way?

Could make sense to do either a straight sort by post time or sort by thread and then post time. But it doesn't seem to be doing either. If there is a pattern to it I can't figure it out.

Sorry, I meant to add that... You can click on the "Post Time" header in the search results and I see a sb=post_time in the URL, but it doesn't seem to do it right.

Hi,

The search engine is actually a bit more complex. It does:

1. If it can use the search index, it will use it and return results with the highest relevance first.

2. If it can't use the index, or determines that the index would be slower then a full scan (in the case of very popular words, or complex phrases), it will do a full table scan and return the results by post time.

Changing the sort order only works in case #2.

We will probably end up removing the arrows. You can always limit by date in either case.

Cheers,

Alex
