I didn't get a response from the Development, Plugins and Globals forum so I'll ask here ... Forum SearchLogger Plugin ...
... has there been a fix to the problem of not being able to purge search terms/searches from the forum SearchLogger plugin?

The plugin is a great function, but the list will become unwieldy in a hurry of you can't purge the list!

Thanks

Steve

Hi Steve,

Check the plugin download section - I've uploaded a new (1.2) version that fixes the bug.

Jason:

There are some strange things going on with the plugin. Below is a list of recent searches. You can see that it lists several searches of the same term by the same user. These all happened one right after another. I can't believe that one person would search for the same word. Is there a known bug that gives multiple results or is this a new discovery?

BTW, I had to make this post three times as the other bug that makes text not show in some quoted messages got me again in the message above. One day I'll remember to copy before I submit.

Hi Steve,

My guess is that the guy was trying to do just one search, but want it to search faster - so he clicked the search button again. And again. And again.... Wink

How many times can you click in a one second (or less) search? Unsure

I'll watch it and see if it continues. He's not the only one that does it.

Jason:

I've attached a text file of all the searches done on the forum for that past couple of days. As you can see there are multiple searches, again, by the same user, all done in a row. I can't believe that anyone, let alone all these people, would click the search button over and over.

It's not a severe problem, but it sure looks like a bug of some kind to me. But then I'm a hypochondriac! Blush

Ah, you're right Blush; I tracked this down - it isn't a user being impatient, but rather that the search logger is reporting each page of the search results, instead of just the first one. I've updated the plugin available for download in the plugin section with a fix to only log the first page.

Hi Jason

thanks for the new version.

When I installed the new version, all previously logged searches were lost, because the table was emptied. Maybe you should take that 'force' option out in Install.pm....

I would, but for the ominous-sounding note there:

# Earlier versions of the plugin created an incorrect table structure, so overwrite it. I don't want people still using the 1.0 version of the search logger to start getting SQL errors due to missing columns Frown

How about an installed version check in the install file?

Okay, I've made another update to it (1.4) which doesn't drop the table if it already exists properly.

I've updated the plugin to 1.4 (I had 1.0) and now if I click on the View Log link I get the error

Can't call method "fetchrow" on an undefined value at /myabsolutepathto/forum/admin/Plugins/GForum/SearchLogger.pm line 102.

The forum is disabled right now...

If you turn on debugging, what does it show for $GT::SQL::error?

That information is not enough.

You need to post the SQL error, which should be more below in the stack trace.

here it is
Code:

GT::SQL::error = Failed to execute query: 'SELECT AVG(search_time) FROM gforum_SearchLogger ' Reason: Table 'gforum.gforum_SearchLogger' doesn't exist

I can solve this by creating the table but this should be done by the plugin....
However I don't know the attributes of the table... Unsure

Try looking in Install.pm. That will show you the attributes you need...

I don't have time to do this now... I removed the plugin and reinstalled it but nothing changed... It's indeed a bug!
Please Jagerman can you fix it?
Thanks

If you are under mod_perl, try restarting the mod_perl server before and after you install the plugin.
