Post Deleted???
Hi,

Just wondering why, when a post is deleted, the empty shell is still visible in the forum?

I say either delete the whole thing or say...

"Post pretty much deleted but not quite".

:)

I believe it does that for the following reasons:

1) To maintain "context" of Threads.
2) To reduce cycles in terms of deleting all "linked" replies within the posts table.

And there are probably many more reasons that GT staff could
expound.

......and because it lets moderators still see the post content.

It's an admin option - you can either keep the "empty shell" or you can have the post - including all direct and indirect replies - deleted.

Also, if the post is cleared and not removed, the moderators of a forum can still view the actual contents of the post (as Paul Wilson mentioned).

Very cool!

Thanks for explaining the logic....

I re-wrote my forum view and also added a column called "PostDelete" (ENUM/Yes/No) with simply updating that column if the post is "deleted"...and then added conditional statements for moderator permissions and to check the value of that column.

Thanks again for the heads up!

Yeah, that's exactly what happens here - post_deleted is set if someone deletes their post.

Where is this admin option to remove the shell?

Thanks!

Hi,

It's a forum property called 'Delete method'. Change it from Blank Post, to Delete Post and All replies.

The all replies is neccesary to preserve threading.

Is there a way to make it so when a moderator deletes a post it fully deletes it but when a user does it leaves the shell?

I've often wanted that myself.. I'll see if I can get Jason to add that in.
